UPDATE - 1/24/23 - This location has significantly improved raising my review from 3 stars to 5. While they are still quite heavy on furniture, they have quite a bit more in the actual home improvement area. On my last visit, I bought several electrical boxes and switches, some plumbing components, tools, hardware and even a pre-hung interior door. It's clear their inventory goes as fast as it comes, so if you see something, grab it. The staff is always available and really helpful. I'm glad to see the change from being a thrift store with a few cans of paint and some lights. I still wish they would take larger supplies as donations, but we still have Craigslist for that, I guess.
It's hard to give a volunteer organization a mid-level review but I feel like the point of this location has been lost. I volunteered at the Norristown location for a few years in the past. The idea of Restore has always been a place to get home improvement items on the cheap to help out Habitat. This particular location seems to focus on furniture and housewares. Very different from other Restores in the area. I would prefer they send that stuff to Goodwill and keep extra home improvement products out of landfills and help out people doing small projects. I've offered new, full sheets of drywall and new siding in the past and was turned down. People could use a deal on that stuff these days. For what it's worth, the staff is really nice and helpful and the store...
Read moreFair warning to anyone looking to donate a flat screen TV- we wanted to find a home for a working 4 year old flat screen TV- we called the Phoenixville Restore and were told that they would accept the TV as long as it was less than 10 years old and had an HDMI port. On the day that we could make the hour long drive to Phoenixville, I called again to get specific instructions for drop off and was told that they would accept a flat screen less than 10 years old and with HDMI capability and we should drive to the left of the Acme and then behind to the back where we would find dumpsters and a doorbell to signal we were there. We arrived , rang the bell and were then told that we needed a "stand" to have the TV accepted- first time we heard this- they then said that no one at this store would ever NOT tell a donor about the stand and that I must have called the Caln store, got my phone out- told them the number and it was the Phoenixville store- no apology just a repeat about how we must have been told that we needed a stand. Most people mount a 55" flat screen they don't use a "stand"- it was a shame that after our efforts- no apology-just accusations and denials- Restore...
Read moreI have been a customer here, purchasing things that maybe I didn't need, just to help out with their mission. Recently I purchased a hardware item, thinking that it might be good to have on hand someday. I get it home, and right on the box in small letters it says, "not working." I do a test of my own, something I couldn't do in the store, and confirm it's not working. Since it was somewhat of a drive to the store for me, I call the store up. and talk to a woman. I explained the situation to her, and she says, "All sales final." They wouldn't even offer me a credit slip. Assuming they wrote that sentence on the box, they knowing sell defective items. We are disappointed with the way they treat patrons of the store. I guess the moral of the story is if you can't 100% test it and you want to gamble pay a price that you'd feel comfortable...
