Just got back from an extremely long quarantine and the first thing we needed to do was stop by hog Island to refresh ourselves with one of our favorites…A pork and broccoli rabe Hi Tavern platter. My wife and I decided to just split the platter which was of course outstanding and packed with meat and fresh broccoli rabe. We were in the mood for some wings and asked for a dry rub style, the owner Dimitri was interested in our opinion so he whipped up some lemon pepper wings and a secret mix of spices on another set of wings. Both styles featured very full and meaty drumsticks and wings portions, but the secret mix was so good that my wife stopped sharing them after I had just one :) I can’t explain the flavor but it’s something you need to ask him about and try. If you’re not that adventurous, the lemon pepper dry rub was outstanding as well! The food here speaks for itself, but Dimitri is a special business person who always goes out of his way to please his customers, his staff is reflective of his management style and very happy and always willing to ask how you’re doing and make sure that you enjoyed your meal. Read moreMy co workers had raved about how good the food Was here, so I thought I'd give it a try. I Was impressed when I walked in b/c the girl had told me that it was "deep clean Thursday". However I was unimpressed with the food & service. None of the year in the fridge were cold (they at least offered me a cup with ice,) I asked if i could get a fountain soda instead, they were fine with it, all were the same price. I ordered a 1/2 chicken parm sub. I watched sevwral customers walk in & come out with their food & i had been waiting for a while. I went to the counter to aak if i need to pick it up or they bring it to you. She told me they call your name...yet I had not given her mine. I saw her go over tp the cook & hold up my order, it seemed as though they had forgotten. She simply told me it was still in the oven. When my sub arrived, i thought it was very sub par. Hardly any sauce on sandwich, only a few pieces of breaded overcooked chicken fingers & a big slice of provolone cheese draped over the top of everything (I guess to make up for the lateness). Read moreI hope the owner sees this: we ordered on a weekend with snow (meaning all delivery places are slammed) and (after calling 2x to check order status) waited 2h for our order. Obviously an extenuating occurrence. By the 3rd time we called, the owner hopped on the phone, apologized, explained what might've caused the issue (not important) and offered a refund-- plus, re-made our order and personally delivered it to us himself. They could've just said sorry, and done nothing, or at best offered a refund. But they went so far as to also re-do the order. And you know what? While it was long overdue, the 2nd batch was hot, food was awesome, and the owner made the situation right. So we tipped him!! I work on the Global Customer Experience team of an apparel company... and customer service gone wrong is so detrimental to a business. But when a mistake is corrected so well, it turns into a glowing review. 5 stars for these guys. Times are tough, everyone's understaffed, and something went really wrong, but they really went all the way to make sure they made it...
