La Madina Mediterranean Halal — Local services in Pittsburgh

We were eating at the restaurant next door and decided to stop in and check this place out. Smart move! What a great place!!!

We love to try out different ethnic foods and sometimes have a hard time finding the right ingredients. We could always go the online route, but then you cannot get any advice. This market has a lot of things that I could only dream of. Some examples: Right by the door were at least five different date species. In the cooler next to the date I saw (and bought) shredded phyllo dough. Several frozen baklava types that I love were available next to them. Further down the aisle were about three dozen different brands of Arabic coffees and teas. On another aisle were dried fava beans. I could go on and on...

The store is small and well packed. The atmosphere is boisterous which tells me that it is frequented by regulars. While many spoke Arabic to the staff, they had no trouble answering my questions. There is a butcher on staff. While I am not Moslem and having the meat being Halal is not a concern of mine, the butcher can probably supply cuts of meat that the regular grocery stores would not be able to - which is sometimes important.

This is a wonderful resource to have and I wish them much success. We will certainly be coming by to shop for more of the specialty...

Abraham is a most gracious host, guiding you to all the many high quality items. Mohamad is a craftsman behind the meat counter, showing the greatest of skill as he custom prepares your order. His product is as good as the best in the city, but his kind service is unmatched. From the breads, to the meats, to dry goods and even the produce; no better can be found in the area. But it is people who truly make it the best.

I had a great experience at this grocery store! They have an amazing selection of items that you can't find anywhere else. I was especially impressed with their Halal beef, lamb, and chicken selection. If you're looking for high-quality Halal meat, La Madina is definitely the best choice...
