My 2 and 5 year old kids loved Dormont Park, but I was a bit disappointed by the condition of the play area. I gave it 4 stars because my kids would definitely give it 5 stars, but as a parent I'd lean more towards giving it only 2 stars. We frequent Pleasant Kingdom playground in Pleasant Hills and this other "castle" playground is very similar (and better maintained). We loved the numerous slides, "hidden" child size stairs, amount of baby/toddler/traditional swings, incorporation of tires, and just the super fun structure of the playground! My kids also enjoyed that it was big enough for them to play "hide and seek" within just the playground equipment! I will say that my children didn't notice anything negative about this playground and had a blast! Unfortunately as a parent, I was concerned with how safe everything was because it appeared worn down and neglected. In the middle of the wooden wobble/shaking bridge it was missing a large piece of wood. By no means was it big enough for a child to fall through, but it was large enough for my 2-year-old's foot to go through. There were 2 spots that just ended with an opening approximately 5ft. from the ground. There weren't any issues with these areas being dangerous (no more dangerous than any other playground) but it was apparent that parts of the original structure...
Read moreI didn't take that many photos but I will next time. My first time at this park, I thought it was that other wooden park but we still had a good time near the end.
We took the train and I would've taken the train back but the distance from where the train and park was is a big gap unless you enjoy walking up steep hills. I don't lol.
As someone on the bus line I was very amazed at how much closer the bus stop to take the "31" was, on Google it said it was an 8 minute walk but it felt more like a 5 minute walk. So I'm just happy I didn't have to walk back up those hills.
We arrived at the park and as I explained earlier I was expecting that I found a certain wooden park I was looking for so I was a little confused. But that's on my part. Overall well...
Read moreThe park is all wooden and very big. Lots of space, but if you are there alone with more than one kid that means you may panic like I did when they went in 2 different directions. We wanted to also go to the splash pool area but there were no signs stating where it was, and nowhere to park. There was parking but Google maps brought me to the side that didn't have it I guess. So then there's a huge hill that you can walk up or not if you have a stroller and I'm guessing that's where all the good stuff was. So on a super hot day I wouldn't go to this park unless you know where the pool is also. Also it's very close to traffic. A toddler could get away from you and run very quickly right into the road so...
