Cozy Cabin Rustics — Local services in Plymouth

About two weeks ago I was informed by a service technician that my 20 year old gas fireplace needed a new gas valve and pilot assembly, the two main components of the unit. Unfortunately, the manufacturer of the fireplace stopped making parts for this model 12 years ago. To replace the fireplace was going to cost me a little over $3000.00, including installation. But I would still have to rebuild the fireplace cabinet because the new fireplace is slightly larger, and repair the outside vinyl siding because the new vent would not align with the old hole. My wife suggested I look online for new parts anyway. Although skeptical that I would have success, I learned that a number of repair kits were manufactured in 2006 that might work for my fireplace. The problem was that not all of the kits work in all situations, depending on manufacturer, model, serial number etc. of the original fireplace unit. On Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021 I called Cozy Cabins and talked to Mary and explained my situation. She knew the right questions to ask me and once she had all the information, including the serial number of my unit she was able to figure out the right option for me. Total cost for the gas valve and pilot assembly was $400.00 including shipping. I received the parts by FedEx within three days. Pricey. Had been looking online at a certain model/maker custom aspen bed for a couple years. Finally ready to spring for it, spouse suggested visiting a local shop, to see what they might have before buying a $2k bed sight unseen. Upon looking at their beds, finding one similar, the frames are distinctive enough to have instantly realized it was from western US company I had been seeing online, vs a local artisan, which stands to reason as we dont have much elk chewed snow bent aspen in NH, and markup was about 2x, so $4k+. Went on sale online w manufacturer, no indication in store. Called to inquire about doing better, did not volunteer that info but agreed to match manufacturer sale price when I mentioned, still wanted 3 bills to deliver 11 miles and setup...delivery to our home was included w our purchase from maker, who is over 1000 miles away, and setup took maybe 15 min ourselves.
