The Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Plymouth, New Hampshire, stands out amongst a crowded field. The thing that stands out amongst them seems to be a single individual who was standing at duty at the cash register in front. His name is Ethan, and he is the manager.
Now, I was not cautious enough to ask about the other staff and volunteers that make this ReStore amazing, but you can clearly see the talents of the others by walking through the store.
There is one staff/volunteer that can sort and organize better than most. You can find a well organized antique tool section and hardware section. Often, a ReStore will have a bit of a chaotic space with the smaller tools and hardware. Fasteners, screw sizes, and even lightbulbs can have overwhelming amounts of inventory in any home goods store. This ReStore has a standard of organization and sorting that'll allow you to identify a small item and tell you if you need it or not. Whoever does the sorting, AMAZING JOB!
There is another person at this site who takes in the various donated items. The ReStore has a variety of high-end goods, mid-grade substitutions, and wonderful home goods that'll be welcome in any home. All of it seemed to be in good quality. There was a lot of fun in going to the different areas of the store, whether it be the smaller lumber yard, the masonry area, and the appliance section.
The book selection was impressive! Apologies for getting a bit too many of the good ones...
One thing about any ReStore is that it is a reflection of the community it serves. Donated items come from the homes that surround the area, and it tells a story of who and what interact with Habitat for Humanity. At this store, there were some stainless steel shelving and side table fixtures that communicate that there are some relatively tasteful homeowners who donate to this place.
There are some ReStores you go to to browse, and there are some that fulfill a certain function of finding a certain thing. At the Plymouth ReStore, you can do both....

Read moreBought an upright freezer for $1000. Said new from name brand store. (As is 30 day warranty) We had them plug it in and seemed to work....was cold. Put items in it in the basement and went to get something out of it and the inside was all frosted at the top and items partially frozen. Long story after defrosting and starting over it did the same thing. Defrosted and put a light inside and saw the gaps. After looking carefully the door was actually warped. Called them (it was beyond 30 days) and no offer of credit or refund or even a partial. I would not suggest buying an appliance there as it...
