To the employees cooking in the restaurant section who ridiculed me for asking if your crab rangoons have real or imitation crab in them:
I heard you, and it’s never a good idea to ridicule a customer. I was asking a legitimate question since your menu is misleading when it suggests real crab is used by employing the real spelling of “crab”. Since I’ve now learned you use imitation, allow me to share that most transparent restaurants use the “Krab” spelling in their menus; signifying to the customer that imitation meat is being used.
During your ridiculing of me, I heard you state that if it were real crab in the “crab” rangoons, it would be $30 per order. Sorry but that’s not true. I happen to be part owner of a Sichuan restaurant in Cincinnati and we use real crab meat in our rangoons. Perhaps we’ve just managed to generate the kind of traffic necessary for our rangoons to work financially in a way that you’re unfamiliar with. I’ll admit that our rangoons are, in fact, delicious and a best-seller. So perhaps you’d be better served by keeping quiet on things you don’t know about instead of loudly belittling...
Read moreWe really wanted to love this place, but it just didn’t deliver. However, not knowing who their target audience is, we don’t want to judge this place too harshly.
The Cafe
Might be great if you order Ramen or Boba Teas as it seemed like the majority of the menu was focused on those items. However, we wanted something different so we ordered the Japanese Curry Tonkatsu - One Pork and One Fish. Curry was largely industrial at best and tonkatsu was over cooked and hard. A 5/10 at best. Coupled with the price $17ish, we wouldn’t order it again.
The Store
Decent selection of items with okay prices, with a heavy focus on packaged items. If you are looking for large containers of kimchi or other fermented vegetables, this may not be the place for you. One area where the store excelled was that they had a large selection of Korean and Japanese alcohols (e.g. Sake, Soju, 복분자주, etc.) that may be difficult to find at other places.
Would recommend this place if you are already in the area, but we wouldn’t drive down just to go to this...
Read moreThis large Asian market has a wide variety of Asian products, fresh, frozen, dried and bottled, but the main reason for this visit was the Cafe. This deli has a menu of pacific rim foods all homemade. It features an open kitchen where you order and pick up the food and a large area with tables to eat. This time we tried the Vietnamese spring rolls and one of the Ramen soups for lunch on a Saturday. The spring roll was excellent and severed with a vinegar sauce. It was crisp on the outside and filled with tasty vegetables. We chose the chicken Ramen with a very rich chicken broth, Ramen eggs ,seaweed , bok choi and noodles. I would rate the broth and accompany very high, but would have preferred a piece of pork rather than the chicken pieces. Next time one of the pork Ramen is on my list. They also serve specials such as stir fry and homemade dumplings. Only a mile from I94 this is a great lunch find that has become very popular based on the number of people...
