Total Light Design — Local services in Portland

Do not use this company. They pulled a classic bait and switch when installing our Christmas lights between last year and this year. Last year, we purchased and installed lights with Total Light Design. They gave us prices that was a little high on the labor, however we assumed that this is the first year (which takes longer) and our house has architecture that is taller than a typical home. They looked at our home, evaluated the cost and gave us a price. They even laid out the light design on a picture of our home and installed last year.

This year they sent out a email early in the year stating that if we schedule early, we get 10% off the install. We opted to schedule early and take advantage of the discount. I sent an email to take advantage of this discount. We started to set up the process. Then about three weeks after we are in the middle of scheduling the install they send an email stating that the price is going up this year. AN 80% INCREASE OVER LAST YEAR! They just decided that they want to increase my rate by 80% after already setting the price from the prior year, knowing all of the details of my home and the install scope prior to pricing my home out. I guess that is a good way to recoup your early bird special and create more profit from one year to the next, just give an 80% increase and a 10% discount.

I used a different company for years. They were great but went out of business. I was referred to Total Light Design in August. I immediately asked for a new estimate. The online form never worked. No one ever called me. I had to call back time and time again. Each time I was told my estimate would be there soon. Finally, after a month of BEGGING for an estimate, I got one. The price was higher than expected but doable so I shot back an email (within 2 hours) and requested to be put on the calendar. That was over a week ago. I have no more energy to keep trying.
