This is the place to go for a TV. They have the TV's lined up by size rather than brand, which makes perfect sense. They actually know all about the various TVs, can tell you what you are buying, and are familiar with rtings (tv review website). Only odd choice is that they hide the TV brand/model behind the placard, so you need to flip it over to see what you are actually looking at. In hindsight I think this makes excellent sense because you as the viewer should be making your own decisions on what looks good, but when I was there I was thinking it's more of a salesman tactic. They often have sales, and may even offer unadvertised deals (something about margins and price competition).
I knew I wanted an 85" despite the small space. Charles (a manager there) talked me into a Samsung QN90B with HW-Q910B (surround sound). It was a bit beyond my initial budget, but seemed like a good deal. I've had it for a month and am really enjoying it.
A few notes that may be helpful for TV noobs like me:
RTings is a great place to check TV reviews. Look for their filter, and sort by size, then rating for whatever your use-case is (movies, tv, games, monitor, etc) then scroll down until your pocket-book agrees with the price.
For anyone on a budget: I don't think the value proposition for OLED is there (at current prices). It's definitely the best quality, but this Samsung QLED (I believe also called "mini LED" tech by other brands) has excellent blacks, literally indistinguishable from the black wall behind my TV in a pitch black room. Sure you get more "blooming", but it's not bad at all and not worth the huge price-jump to eliminate it in my opinion.
Motion Smoothing is generally a terrible feature, and it goes by different names for different TV brands. My TV came with this setting maxed-out. The picture looked terrible (soap opera effect). I'd suggest you dial it down to its lowest setting (a 1/10 for Samsung's) or turn it off completely. 1/10 was perfect for my TV. After that, everything looked excellent.
Be sure to utilize your TV + Soundbar speakers, as they are much better than just the soundbar alone. I personally think the additional rear-speakers (for a true surround sound) are worth it, but you do pay more for that.
Double-check your preferred viewing distance. Go to the store, stand (or bring a chair and sit) at your favorite distance from the TV. For me, that turned out to be only 6.5' away (eyeball to screen) from an 85" TV. (see attached photo).
I love this setup but most will tell you it's too close. They may be right, but I say most people are sitting way too far. This is an 85" TV, viewed from 6.5' and it all fits into an 8.0' deep space. A true...
Read moreWhat can I say about this place. I started by calling Video Only on Jantzen Beach and I have had the great opportunity to talk to Mike. I had a question to see if they had a specific TV in which he went to confirm that they did so I wouldn't waste my time going there just to say they don't have it. But they had only 2 left and I asked if they come please put one on hold for me and he obliged. I had to wait a bit since it would be about 8 hrs until I could even go to the store. I get there and meet Mike and super courteous, and kind (I'm sure the others are as well since this place looks very well kept and professional). Answered all my questions I had with the product. I had a problem as well with my credit check (since I wanted to do a payment plan) and I was confused as to why. But he called the credit agency and everything was settled and we where good to go..... Kind of. My eyes where bigger then my 1998 chevy malibu I had so I had to figure out a way to get the TV to my house. They have delivery options as well but he said I could leave it there as long as I need inorder to find a vehicle, or to come to whatever conclusion I needed. The next day I just brought my van and since I had a good experience I was also in the mood for a speaker system for the new TV. Mike showed me the speaker systems that best suits the ecosystem of the TV that works with one another. There was 3 options and boom it was easy to choose from there. I remember why I bought my last TV there 8 years ago and this just solidified while I'll only be coming back to Video Only for any TV or sound...
Read moreThe worst purchase of my life! I bought this 5000 USD 65inch 4K TV with 5 year warranty. It started having problems in a few months. It took them 3-4 months to fix it while they broke the other original parts of the TV and replaced them with 3rd Party parts, this is all within the 1st year. In the 2nd - 3rd - 4th year TV stopped working. But I have a 5 year warranty, right? When I first called them, they said my 5 year warranty expired. When I explained them the MATH, they gave me the WARRANTY GROUP contact which is warranty company that suppose to fix my TV. They could not find a repair technician for 3 months, I had to chase them down every day as they do not contact you at all. Later, they decided to buy out the TV warranty. They said they wrote me a check, that is going to be delivered in 10-14 business days (basically another month). 14 business days later, I contacted them saying I did not receive any check at all. They said there is problem with their check department, they will void the one send and send me another one. When I asked them to expedite it as it has been super long for a claim to be fixed, or ask them when they will send me the check; they never replied me. Now, I am calling and they are not answering to their phone numbers. It is clear to me that these people are a MAJOR SCAM. They do not care about the legal rights not their customers. I am about to take legal action, if I don't hear back from...
