Food Lion — Local services in Portsmouth

Great local grocery store. Exceptionally clean with friendly and helpful staff. A wide variety of products and they have always had what I've wanted in stock every time I shop there. I saw a former colleague of mine who retired a year ago and we were able to have a pleasant conversation and catch up without disturbing other shoppers or blocking the aisles. This store has ample space for shopping and conversing and the store never seems crowded even when there are numerous people shopping there. They also have great sales and excellent reduced prices on closeout items. Ample parking space and great features on the building to keep birds from perching and doing their business all over the walkway and cars. Really well designed newer Food Lion...

I have never had a negative experience at this FL, however, that was until this evening. I was standing in the self check out lane, awaiting my turn. A spot opened up, and as I was stepping towards the open kiosk, a FL employee waived the person behind me to take my spot. I made the remark " That's how we do in this store "? The woman who had a name tag with April on it, replied " Yeah, that's how we do " . And directed the lady that was obviously behind me in line. Then April said something under her breath that sounded like a reference to Trump. April's attitude and demeanor was very off-putting and didn't reflect well for Food Lion. Well that's my experience tonight, and I hope that it will be my last. Thanks for reading...

I was walking out the store and in my cart I had About five cases of water for my office as I’m walking out and halfway through the parking lot somebody yells “hey excuse me ma’am let me help you” after I refuse to let him help me I saw him walking away from the Food Lion as if his shift was over and he was going home. He genuinely wanted to help me even though he wasn’t paid for it. With all the negativity going on all day every day during Covid it truly made my day to know that this young man meant nothing but good on his own time. Shout out to James because I begged him for his name after offering his help....
