I don't have nothing good to say about the town, but I WILL SAY MARKET BASKET IS A VERY GOOD GROCERY STORE. I don't meet eye to eye with them sometimes, but Market Basket do give the youth, the elderly, the disabled, and those who conceder themselves to be above all a chance to work. A chance to keep busy, stay out of trouble, help show and support work ethnic. In a town like Portsmouth where 89% of the people are strung out on drugs, prostituting themselves, depress, down, corrupt schools, and systems the one thing that is good for youth who are trying to find a way out of all the cayous is MARKET BASKET. There is almost always someone to assist me, and everyone there try their best to accommodate the customers. The managers are respectable people, they are not rude like many. I saw one of the managers get yelled out from a customer and the manager handled himself very well. Another manager assisted by co-workers stopped shop lifters from taking someone bag, groceries, and much more. The youth that don't go astray are very helpful, and I know quite a few who was bad going in and turned out decent just because they worked at MARKET BASKET. BAKERY: The young ladies and gentlemen there are always polite, ready to serve, and have treats ready for customers to sample. A toddler was getting on his mothers last nerve and the young lady over the counter went out of her way to assist the mother by calming the toddler down with a treat. SANDWICH DEPT: They do a good job there too. Dave always make the best sandwiches for me. The rest are good but I prefer Dave to make mine, just as a few other customers prefer the other worker. Dave makes the sandwiches with care, a smile, and make you feel like you belong. Deli:
They are always to take your orders, I like the number calling system they have. You take a number and when your number comes up, they call it and you place your order. They're fast too, and if you don't feel comfortable with the selection you choose they will change it with no haul, I'm picky so I know. DAIRY: Before I had to quit egg nog I use to call around and the only store that would get my case was MARKET BASKET, and they held it for me to pick up cause I couldn't get the next day. If it's something I need and MARKET BASKET don't have it I just give them the name of the item and what do know, they call me up and they have the item ready for me.
SEAFOOD: Steve's the man to see, he make sure you get the best fish, or what ever it is you want and provide you with great recipes, and how to clean the seafood too.
I like going down the alies the elderly and the disable workers make sure I get the right product, and I love seeing them, Jeffery always great me. Ray always great me too and they keep the store well kept together with assistance. And when it comes to bagging Patsy is the best. She don't just throw the groceries in the bag in place them in the bag so that they don't damage. I like that. QUALITY. And the young men and women running the registers and assisting in bagging the groceries also do a very good job. They also help the elderly and people who may need a helping hand loading their items into their car. But most of all I love walking into a store and everyone knows you and know what you want. They treat you as if thats where you belong.
MARKET BASKET ON WOODBURY IS THE PLACE TO SHOP FOR GOOD QUALITY PRODUCTS AT REASONABLE PRICES, AND GOOD RELIABLE QUALITY ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpdate - Well deserved! Not sure if the powers that be heard the many complaints concerning the lack of customer service at the registers? But big improvement and much better experience during checkout. Thank you!
I used to love Market Basket. Fridays after work. Got my list. Great way to decompress after a long week. Been going to the same store for 10+ yrs. I like their low prices and quality of the products they sell. I always start my Market Basket visit in a great mood. Itās friday, how can I not be. Well You guys found a way. The anxiety usually starts after I finish in produce, turn the corner at the bakery and start heading towards checkout. Iām now looking for my favorite baggers and cashiers. I will gladly wait 20mins for the right aisle. Iām just going home after all, not in a rush. Sometimes I leave unscathed. But lately, not so much. This is my typical approach in line. I place my groceries on the belt and place a divider when Iām done. Now comes the pleasantries. Iām pretty bubbly and happy go lucky so my āhi how are you?ā usually happens first and on a typical visit I get a āgreat how are you?ā back. I say hello to the bagger and they say hello back. I pay for my things. I say ā thank and have a great oneā to both of them, and they do the same. Basic Customer Service. I leave in the same great mood I came in with. Now this is what happens when I donāt get to choose my cashier and bagger? I put my things on the belt, place a divider when Iām done. When itās my turn I say āhi how are you?ā Cricketsā¦tumbleweeds are blowing by the front of the storeā¦i think I hear a faucet dripping in the distance. No eye contact. Sour face. So I greet the bagger next. No eye contact. Sour face. So now Iām thinking to myself, well eff me. Mood level 7. At one visit the cashier was having a great sounding conversation with the cashier behind me and is waving the receipt at me, all the while laughing and smiling (not looking at me) with her friend behind me. I take the receipt and sour face returns. Mood level 4. I say āhave a nice dayāā¦nothing. I do the same to the bagger. Nothing. Again eff me I guess. Mood level 1. I leave the store. I have to get a frickin frosty at Wendys to get me back on stable ground. So congrats Market Basket, even through all of that I will still continue shopping at your store. Iām sure you are aware of the horrible customer service going on there. And Iām sure you did the math and you are probably right, you will probably not lose business because of this. I just feel bad for the red coats. Unless they have just givin up or are now numb to it, they canāt have any level of pride about whatās going on with the lack of friendliness going on at the front end. Alright, end of rant. See you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy favourite supermarket and the only one I go to if I can help it. Meat ends for me and my wild visitors for one thing. What do other supermarkets do with those? I hope they aren't discarded.
They also regularly have discounted fruits and vegetables as well as desserts. (Desserts are made on-site and are pretty damn good.)
There is a sandwich counter that makes good stuff to order.
I wish someone would explain to me why the Oakhurst whipped cream went away. I can still get it on Lafayette road but not on Woodbury. I was told it's not coming back but it's the only good one.
Repeated attempts to persuade them to add Mission Carb Smart tortillas have been fruitless. So many are low carb these days, and they sell Mission products. What's the issue here? They have plenty of room for ice creams that serve every possible dietary restriction. Tortillas don't take up much room. The fact they don't sell them forces me to go to Hannaford when I want them, which means I will do the rest of my shopping there to save time and hassle. I'd rather not spend my money at Hannaford and I'd also rather not spend my time going to 2 supermarkets, a sentiment that predates the pandemic. They DID start to stock Folios not so long ago which is pretty great.
It's my favourite supermarket - it seems like everything at Hannaford is $1 more.
They've done well dealing with the pandemic. They were very proactive in the beginning, before anyone else was. ...
