The Wheeler Academy — Local services in Powell

My words are insufficient for expressing how highly I think of this martial arts school and how badly I miss coming to classes. Much to our surprise our son decided to take a break from classes and I was in a dilemma of what to do but we chose to honor his feelings and let him step away for an indefinite period of time. I’m still shocked that he wanted to stop and I think I’m grieving the loss of this place and the people that serve there. The staff here truly became like family to me. They gave us a positive and encouraging environment away from the cares of the world and a sense of community. I loved how the children were taught moral values and character development alongside martial arts skills. Mr. Reynolds’s generosity is unmatched. The facilities are clean and well kept. I felt comfortable with all the staff members and could share concerns, ask questions and generally share in the excitement over our child’s progress. They were there for me and ready to listen and encourage me through life’s issues beyond karate. Seeing our son earn a stripe was a core memory. The positive atmosphere, attitude of the staff and energy in the classes is so electric and encouraging. The younger children have a lot of fun in class while learning and the older children are constantly bettering themselves and progressing. It’s so much fun to see the students earn stripes and belts and to be able to recognize and honor them as a group. I don’t believe you will find a better place than this one for martial arts training. I so miss the fellow parents and students. I hope my boy will want to come back eventually. I can’t express my gratitude in the way you deserve but I’m truly so grateful to all of you at Wheeler Academy and hope this isn’t the end...

Excellent dojo..been bringing our kid here for right about 2yrs now, (kiddo is currently an orange belt w/ 3 stripes, almost 4, at this point- u could b further along at this point, but there's always illness days out and trips n such, so u really go at your own pace, which is cool imo, plus it's about the journey ya know), and have been very happy with them (many families have been there longer than us, but there's many beginners as well)... Nothing better than a real family owned dojo that have been doing martial arts themselves like their whole lives (the owner plus like basically all the other senseis literally grew up training at that same dojo, how cool), and not some little pop up corporate dojo in a room the size of a walkin closet (like we have gotten a few of around here in recent yrs) that have to use gimics like "birthday parties here and your kid uses a sword to cut the cake" to get ppl to go there, lol..no birthday parties or cake cutting swords here, thankfully, just the real deal...and that's exactly what u get at Wheeler, real training (but they do have some fun in classes too with kids, with confidence/skill building physical games n such, so it is fun still, and we def want our kids to- WANT to go to class, so this helps) by real ppl that clearly love the art and care..and not the gimics.. So if that's what ur looking for, then this is the place to b...they have many classes to attend and are great for kids and adults, offering kickboxing, jui jitsu, and the martial arts (karate type mix)...morning classes and evening M-F... *Very happy we chose this dojo for our kid to train and grow at, and we really appreciate u all at Wheeler, thank u all for your hardwork, patience, and caring, our little family...

We have been with The Wheeler Academy for about 7 or 8 years now. My son has indicated that he never plans on stopping. :) So hopefully we still have many more years ahead of us with Mr. Reynold, Mr. Potts and all the other fantastic instructors. Every single one of them is just wonderful. If I have to start and write all my son has gained by attending this magnificent place we will be here for the day! :) Yet I will name a few. Discipline, perseverance, character, focus, sportsmanship, good attitude, how to make healthy choices and most of all to focus on what is most important in life. We will forever be thankful to all these superb instructors, for all they have instilled in our son and how they are helping him prepare for life. It is a wonderful place for kids, teens and adults to attend. You can't go wrong with Wheelers. I would not even look elsewhere! So what are you waiting for? Come...
