Met a date in the outdoor area on Father’s Day. Although there was limited wait staff, the waiter outside said he would come to take our order. After about 20 minutes of him passing by taking everybody else’s drinks and serving them food, I went inside the restaurant and spoke with him directly. I told him we had been waiting for an extended period of time, and that he had never shown up as promised. He said someone would be out to take our order. After another 15 minutes, I went inside and asked to speak with a Manager and that we had been waiting an extended period of time. He explained that they were short of staff. I asked why everyone else including others were getting their orders taken and eating their meals. He stated that I needed to come inside and let them know I was outside. I saw nobody else that had to follow those instructions. At this point several of the people who were patrons approached my table and said I was right to speak up because they were blatantly ignoring us and serving others. Being able to speak Spanish, even the Hispanic patrons were approaching me saying they had witnessed the treatment we had endured. The young black waiter who said he would be out to take my ordered wouldn’t even make eye contact with me, he knew what he had done. Then two more people come out telling me I should have come inside which nobody else I witnessed had done. When the woman who said she was the GM and gave me her card told me when I asked for corporate contact information to express my frustration, she informed me that the person in charge was her husband. I explained to her how I was treated, and how I was embarrassed to the extent that other diners who had witnessed how we were treated, and that a reputable restaurant would comp. the meal based on that alone. She walked away and had someone else bring me the check. Being a professional black man out with a Vietnamese woman and getting treated that way obviously lends to thoughts of discrimination. I paid the check and wrote a note asking them to treat everybody paying the same money the same way. In this case they didn’t, and never have to worry about seeing any of my money ever again! A heck of a way to be treated as a Father on Father’s Day. I had driven all the way from Charlotte for such a terrible and embarrassing experience. I write this in hopes that nobody has to be belittled to this degree at this...
Read moreLafayette Village in Raleigh is a truly charming and unique place that feels like a little slice of Europe right in North Carolina. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by beautiful architecture, cobblestone paths, and a peaceful, village-like atmosphere that’s perfect for a relaxed day out.
The village is home to a great mix of shops, restaurants, and cafés. Whether you’re looking to grab a coffee, enjoy a nice meal, or do some boutique shopping, there’s something for everyone. I especially enjoyed the variety of cuisines available — from Italian and Mediterranean to crepes and gourmet sandwiches. It’s also a great spot to try local wines or craft beer at one of the tasting rooms or bars.
The landscaping and fountains add to the charm, and it’s very pedestrian-friendly, making it a perfect place for a weekend stroll. There are also events hosted here from time to time, like outdoor markets, live music, or seasonal festivals, which make it even more enjoyable for families, couples, or solo visitors.
Parking is free and easily accessible, which is always a bonus. Lafayette Village is a hidden gem in Raleigh and definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for something a little different and scenic. Highly...
Read moreI attended the "Step Into the Halloween Village" event with my family, and unfortunately, our experience was quite disheartening. My children, who do not have a Caucasian appearance, were treated differently and unfairly compared to other children at the event. It was extremely hurtful to witness this level of discrimination, especially at a family-oriented event that should be inclusive and welcoming to all.
As a parent and a member of the immigrant community, I want to warn others who may consider attending future events here: this venue does not seem to foster an inclusive environment for all families. My hope is that the organizers take this feedback seriously and make the necessary changes to ensure that no other family has to go through what we experienced.
Discrimination has no place in any community, and I urge Lafayette Village to reflect on the importance of diversity and inclusivity in future events.
