80% of the DMV staff are unqualified, incompetent, do not improve themselves and cannot think solution-oriented.
Their approach to people, regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity the entire Staff are From those greeting citizens at the gates security guards and döv employees and all the way to the employees working inside, unfortunately, most are inadequately informed, don't improve themselves, and don't even realize they're actually working there providing a public service.
Only a small portion of SMV visitors are satisfied; it's a matter of luck to get to the ones who do their job properly at DMV locations..
Inside people are monitored by employees and security staff 24/7 as if they were in a military training camp. Standing people are told not to stand around, sitting people are told not to sit, and those who buy drinks or snacks from the vending machines, or even those who go to the restroom and hanging out neae bathrooms, are constantly asked absurd questions like "What are you doing here?", "Why are you here for?", and "What are you doing?" Their harassment and disrespect begin right from the door.
We, as citizens, don't come to DMV centers to deal with these discriminating people. Treat people with courtesy, be respectful even if they arrive without an appointment or have missing documents. Be solution-oriented, don't exaggerate problems, and be helpful all the time. Citizens come visit DMV locations only for their specific needs , not to be scolded. Who do you dare to scold people who come to get or renew their driver's licenses, or take their first exams, or to change their licenses, or to get their title/plate/registration needs to be done? How dare you scold people who come to take care of their paperwork? You can't turn people away; you can't be rude. Some people may lack knowledge, they may have been poorly prepared, they may not know anything at all, bu all your approach both disrespectful and not solution-oriented.
Majority of DMV staff never thinking about helping or solving people's problems. As I pointed out at the beginning, it's not just this branch; 70-80% of DMV employees across the country don't do their job properly and can't show improvements. There are DMV employees who have been working in the same place for 3, 5, 10, or 20 years ,with no progress on their approach. There are also inspectors at road test locations they provide service for driving test takers; they're the same unfortunately. Only few of them are nice, rest either play tricks or have no compasion at all . In other words, the people working here don't care to help and dont provide solution. While so many people are waiting inside or in line for so many hours to take tests or to get their other needs fixed, the staff are either stalled, wasting time,or at their slow processing position unfortunately Their mindset and mentality are constantly regressing, their communication is problematic. Sure, you don't have to be friends or friendly with anyone in there, but citizens come to DMV centers and Road Test Locations to organize their needs and move on with their live bu receiving decent public service, not to see your nonsensical and disrespectful behavior or hear your disapproval. If you don't want to provide public services, you don't have to work in these places.
It is very easy task and simple task for all DMV staff : "Be solution-oriented" and ve polite no matter what, if this job is too stressful for you, dont get angry dont complain and make people life difficult, go find some other job not related to government/ public service
People are taking days off from their work and school when they visit DMV location.. Ultimately, they come to solve their problems. Please let people to explean themselves ans listen their problems and help them sincerely...
Read moreWent to Randolph DMV to get my RealID license as my license was up for renewal and didn't want a non-RealID that I could have gotten renewed online.
Fairly positive experience. Read up on a bunch of Google reviews before going. A lot of people were saying they were lining up at 4am, 5am, 6am. 1 review said they got there recently just before 7am and still found a parking spot in the lot (figured that would be a sweet spot). Got there around 6:45am and found a few parking spots in the main lot. The line already circled the building. Waited in line until they opened at 8am (bring a chair if you don't want to stand). Got a numbered ticket (not as bad as I was expecting, #78, guessing there were maybe 80-100 people in front of me with some at the head of the line possibly getting served without needing a ticket to come back, maybe???), gave them my phone number, got a confirmation text that I was indeed in the queue, left at 8:35 and went home. Got a 2nd text at 9:48 to come back to the office. 3rd text at 10:02 to go line up inside. Was called to the counter at 10:18. I read on other reviews that they might not punish you if you are late retuning but I don't know for sure, but try being reasonable and confirm before you leave if you will be more than. 20-30 minutes away. First lady checked to make sure I had all the necessary paperwork. Wait 1-2 minutes before I was called to another window where a second lady conducted the transaction and gave me my new license. Done at approx 10:45! The two ladies inside that helped me were very nice and very chatty (maybe good de-escalation training??? but definitely a pleasant surprise for a DMV experience).
Comments: Read up online what you need to bring for whatever type of license or vehicle needs you have. Each DMV location now only does either licenses or vehicle transactions. MUST know which locations you need to go to for you specific transaction. Saw a lot of people get turned away after waiting hr(s) in line either because they were at the wrong office locations or they could have completed their transactions online. License renewal (non RealID) can be done online even if your renewal notice says you must do it in person. When I returned at 10 to go in, it appeared I could have gotten a ticket then with no wait (on Wed 10/7). So if you don't want to wait in the initial surge when they first open, you MIGHT be able to go later in the am after that initial surge of people, not wait to get a ticket, go away and come back when you're texted but the wait time to come back might be much much longer. I wish they allow online appointments to avoid that initial visit just to get a ticket while still allowing the present system for walk-ups for those that are less computer savvy. A little wordy but hope this calibrates your...

My wife and I just moved from out of state- since we have to physically go in to get our NJ licenses, we decided to wait in line yesterday (Saturday) at Randolph while it is still decent weather.
We got in line with a ticket at 8, just in time, and both got in the system at 11 - they will text you when your number is close to being called.
Finally a 2pm, we received our texts and went back. At 2:30, we were back inside. I went first, and when I was finally seen the agent at the window immediately was annoyed that I had an out of state transfer and said, “just so you know, you are probably going to have come back because it’s too late today to process this. But let’s see your documents and paperwork.”
I provided everything, including my new lease, and she proceeded to tell me they won’t accept it because it is “a copy” - (it’s not). I guess my frustration in explaining to her that it is a digitally signed lease must have bothered her as she then gave me a blue return pass (allowing me to come back and “cut the line”) and told me to come back with another proof of address.
I then wait to see what happens with my wife, assuming she will also get a blue slip. A different agent helping her moved her to the next counter to get her Drivers License.
I then asked a supervisor why I was refused my license since my wife used literally the exact same lease for her proof of address. The supervisor wasn’t sure, but sent me to an agent at the ID counter. Since the first agent did not finish filling out my form, she refused to proceed and apologized saying I will have to come back.
I am still trying to understand why we left yesterday with my wife getting a NJ drivers license and me with a slip to come back. My guess is, the first agent I saw just didn’t feel like working the last 15 minutes of her shift - she did not assist anyone after me. Now, I plan to return with so many documents proving my identity and address that it is comical.
My advice: come extra, extra prepared, do all of your research, and accept in advance that it might take an entire day of waiting. And that it still might not be enough.
The best part is, we have several more trips in our future since titles & registration must be completed at a different location. What a broken system that could easily be improved by even the slightest amount of technology. I feel for anyone who has to deal...
