Our soon to be 8th grader had been using a generic hand me down flute for the past 3 years when her music teacher recently told her that it was time to retire it. It was starting to corrode and worn out to the point of not wanting to stay together. Doing some research on the various levels from beginner to intermediate to advanced flutes and the number of configurations and finishes that they are offered in - as well as the different manufacturers (in car speak, think used KIA up to brand new Maserati) and widely varied price tags. I was preparing to spend in the neighborhood of $1000 for a decent intermediate flute when we walked in the door at The Music Den. The staff was very friendly and immediately helped my daughter by listening to her wants and needs before pulling several flutes for her to try out. As this was going on, one of the music teachers that specialized in the flute happened to walk in prior to a scheduled lesson. She was brought into the conversation and very enthusiastically jumped in and was also super helpful. In the end, we walked out with a very nice flute that was less than half of what I was expecting to pay - and one that she can hang onto even after moving up into a more expensive, more advanced, more silver flute. The “Toyota Corolla” flute that we left with can do double duty as an outdoor/all weather marching band flute. We returned a week later with two nice intermediate flutes in tow that we’d received from a friend and also a family member. Both needed tune ups and within a few days we were able to pick them up for $130 each and WOW did they look and sound great after that. Our friend said that the last quote she had to tune up her flute was 2x what we paid at The Music Den. We are very happy to have found them and look forward to continuing to patronize their...

I rented an instrument for my kid to play at school. On the phone, the two female employees I spoke with were very friendly and extremely helpful. When I show up to pick up the instrument, the man at the counter was very short and unhelpful. I asked if my kid was going to need anything else since the store partners with the school and was told” no, we provide everything you need.” I had explained this was my first time renting an instrument. He reiterated everything is there for your kid to be all set at school. He didn’t mention that reeds would be important to have available because they only provide one and the school doesn’t provide any. It turns out reeds last a month or so, and having extras available, is important. My kid then points out they need an instrument book. I ask about it, and the person at the counter told me he didn’t know if I would need it or not, which is fine. I didn’t expect them to know what the school may require. But I drove 50 minutes to the store to talk through everything I may need and I was going to be sent home with one reed and no peace of mind at all. I was brushed off by the guy at the front desk with all my questions and rushed out the door.
Multiple people walked in and only wanted to be helped by a female employee. She appeared to be friendly and willing to answer any questions for people like me. I should have waited for her but was too frustrated by the initial interactions with the front desk employee.
In short, if you need any help or customer service for school instruments, wait around for the female employees. Don’t waste your time dealing with...
Read moreI recently purchased a used Bogner Goldfinger from The Music Den in Randolph, NJ. When I got the amp home, I had a chance to properly play it but after 20 minutes, the front panel shut down and the preamps went silent. I contacted Bogner in Hollywood and they diagnosed the problem as an overheating 5 volt regulator. Having no experience with amp design, I took the amplifier to Andy Fuchs of Fuchs Amplification in Clifton, who diagnosed the same issue. Andy fixed the amp and even though they did not preauthorize the work, The Music Den did not hesitate in immediately covering the $250 repair. Chris and the whole crew at The Music Den were amazing throughout and a pleasure to deal with. I recommend The Music Den for their professionalism and courteous handling. And the inventory in their store is amazing….. Taylor, Boogie, Martin, to name a few. Spectacular inventory and a welcome experience. It’s great to see a high end guitar store still competing and standing up to Reverb, GC and Sweetwater. In a world where local stores are disappearing to big box stores it is a pleasure to have shopped at Music Den. Even at over an hour from my home in Monmouth County, I will happily be back for future purchases. Great store worth the trip. If you play guitar, you should check them out. Very...
