We choose not to shop here but for a health food store they are exactly that.
Please consider shopping at:
The Market on Omaha (Less than 1/2 mile away.) Staple & Spice (Downtown)
This was written after the reply. Just in case they change their response to my review I am posting there response here:
BREADROOT: [Response from the owner] Hi Guy, thanks for taking the time to write a review on the Co-op! Have you stopped in recently and taken advantage of our Co+op Deals program or Coupon Books? We have hundreds of products on sale wit...
GUY SIVERSON: Based on how they replied it doesn't look like they read the review. This is central to the exact reason that we will not shop at Breadroot. Not only does it seem they don't read but they also don't feel it necessary to contact a member who tried to make connections with management for over 6 months. It mattered not if I went in person, emailed or called; my results were the same.
////////////// - UPDATE 6.18
It has been quite some time since I spoke with them and they were to get back to me about the possibility of a resolve that would work for us all. Honestly, I even forgot all about this.
I never heard back from them and as a result am moving this back to a one star.
Lack of follow through is my biggest concern and complaint. If they are not willing to keep their word as it relates to working with Rapid City residents then I for one am very concerned about the viability and trust-ability of what they are bringing to the market.
This failure to follow through has occurred toward two totally separate topics and from more than just one individual. I have not experienced this anywhere else in all of Rapid City and certainly not to the level I am experiencing it from this specific company.
////////////// - UPDATE 6.25
Received a call from Rachel regarding my recent update of this review. Apparently I missed a call returned sometime in Feb. It can happen. That point is resolved though I am intrigued and saddened that it took an adjustment to a 1 star for Breadroot to consider it time to attempt a follow-up. However, that's beside the point of this entire event and as such will not in and of itself cause a further drop in star rating if it were possible.
Sadly, based on the rest of the call I do not believe that this rating will rise any time in the near future. I am personally disappointed in that because prior to this entire event we were loyal members of Breadroot. It is presently my opinion that if you want people helping you that truly care about you as a customer rather than just wanting your money you should go to The Market on Omaha or Staple & Spice.
In conversation I advised that I would change this review to a 3 or 4 star and give a much more positive write-up plus writing a glowing review from my own Website if Breadroot would come to the table with something that makes sense for the mistreatment that has taken place in this situation.
Rachel asked if I were referring to something financially and I advised that I did not know but encouraged creativity of thinking to be brought forward and offered. Based on the tenor of the call I am left feeling that nothing further will take place.
I do hope I am wrong.
If I am not I will continue taking my business that would be going to this establishment to other locations like:
The Market (THESE PEOPLE ARE AMAZING) Staple & Spice (Always nice but not a...
Read moreI recently moved to Rapid City with my family and was looking for a supermarket that offers a strong selection of healthy food options, given the absence of Whole Foods or Fresh Market in the state. After visiting your store, I found that while your prices are reasonable, there are significant gaps in your product offerings that make it difficult for health-conscious customers to find essential items.
For example, your almond milk selection is limited to Califia, which contains added sugar and is not a true almond milk alternative. I recommend considering brands like MOOLOA, which offers a cleaner, more nutritious option. Similarly, your selection of sugar-free bacon is lacking—while Applegate has an organic, sugar-free version, your store only carries the less healthy alternative.
Additionally, I noticed that your stock of grain-free chips from the Siete brand is minimal, with only two varieties available, despite the fact that the brand offers over ten different options. It appears that product selection may be based solely on front-label marketing rather than a deeper understanding of nutritional value.
Another area of concern is your egg selection. While local farm eggs can be a good option, many new residents are unfamiliar with local farmers and their practices. Leading brands such as Vital Farms and Happy Eggs are widely recognized for their quality and ethical sourcing. It is concerning that I can find Happy Eggs at Safeway, yet a store positioning itself as a health-focused market does not carry them.
Overall, it is disappointing that a store of this nature does not provide essential healthy options, especially when smaller, conventional supermarkets do. I urge ownership to take a more informed and strategic approach to product selection, ensuring that customers have access to truly high-quality,...
Read moreI don't normally write reviews but seeing some of the harsh comments about Breadroot was ridiculous.
Breadroot functions as a co-op, which is unlike most any other health food stores. They strive to connect people with good food from local farms. Some of the prices are high because you are paying for high quality products that are not part of the horrible mass production American food system. I have found that their products are actually quite reasonable, especially if you shop the sales. The staff is amazing. I have never encountered someone who didn't seem to enjoy working there and caring for customers.
As a member-owner, for a low $20 annual fee, they regularly offer discounts such as a 25% off bulk discount or most recently a 25% off wellness items discount. This is an example of how much they really care about their customers. It is what shopping should look like: a meaningful mutually beneficial relationship.
For the store size, the product selection is way better than big name stores twice as large because they don't offer the selection of junk/toxic food that other stores do. They have an impressive bulk food selection. Also, their water filling stations offers RO water for cheaper than filtered water at Walmart or Safeway and it is...
