I've been going to this gym for years, since about 2003. It's okay but only if you never need to talk to the staff. The equipment usually works, more or less. The current mgmt seems to keep the machines working better than they used to years ago...I don't see nearly as many "out of order" signs and they're not on there for as long. The problem is the staff. If I ever have an issue I bring it to their attention and the attitude is always the same: "That's not something I can help with." "That's not my job." "That's not something I'm going to do anything about." (these are not direct quotes, it's just the gist of the attitudes I keep encountering again and again.) From the lowest employee on the totem pole to the manager (with one exception which I'll explain below), the employees don't care and won't help. Examples: Years back I called my local location, where I always attend, to ask if my membership included pool use. They looked up my account and said it did, so I came by immediately with my suit, towel, etc. only to see a big sign on the front counter that said the pool was closed for repairs! When I inquired, the staff said "Oh, I didn't know you meant this pool! You're allowed to use the pool at any locations including Rancho Cordova" (which is about a 20+ minute drive from my house as opposed to less than 5 minutes to the location I called.). So there's absolutely no going above and beyond here. Staff is poorly trained and can only answer the most basic questions. They don't seem to have the skills, training, or authority to do anything else. While I was swimming one day, another patron was spitting loogies on the pool deck as he did laps, each time he got to the end. I brought it to an employees attention and he basically said it wasn't his job to deal with and wouldn't get whoever's job it was to handle it. YUCK! Latest problem was that I saw another patron wearing a shirt with the f-word on it. Now, I'm an adult. I hear it all the time in public. But I don't use that language and would prefer not to see it emblazoned on a shirt while I'm at the gym. But when I asked the staff what their policy was on clothing and explained why, they said they couldn't and wouldn't do anything about it. I find it hard to believe they don't have the right to at least ask that patron to change his shirt. Simple fix. Or if the guy didn't bring a different shirt, let it go one time but request he wear something less offensive next time. The only reason I go is that it's close and cheap. Seriously tired of dealing with the staff. The one sort of nice thing they did once was something that happened after my swimsuit was ruined in their pool. The suit was pretty new and I'd been swimming regularly at their pool with no ill effect to the suit. I went in one day and a patron warned me that she'd just got out of the pool and her eyes were burning and she showed me her suit was faded. I didn't know her so I was like "Oh, that's too bad", but decided to go in the pool anyway. Yikes - they'd put too much chlorine or other chemicals in there and after swimming 30 minutes and rinsing my suit immediately after at the pool shower, it was sooooo faded!!!!! Too late!!!! The manager at the time (their last manager, not the current one) was nice about it and after I provided a receipt for the cost of the suit, they gave me gym fees equal to the cost. I had to quit going for a while because of surgery but when I returned, the new (current) mgr. did honor this credit. It was the only good thing the business ever did for me. I would not, in general,...
Read moreImmature staff that likes to harrass underage member's. On July 31 between the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm. Me and my two son's, age 15, and 16 we're at this club yesterday and my 16 year old was harassed repeatedly by several staff members over him not buttoning up his shirt. It first started out because he did not have a shirt on, but he put it on when the first staff member asked him to, but he didn't button it up. The staff member told him to button up his shirt and started raising his voice at him. I saw what was going on from the elliptical machine I was on and went up to the staff member and told him a few choice words. I thought it would be the end of it. But then about 30 minutes later two more staff members approached my son while he was on the tricep machine. They started telling him over and over and trying to bully him into buttoning up his shirt. I saw this from the treadmill I was on and approached them. When I first walked up, the 2 boy staff member's didn't even look at me when I was trying to talk to them. So to get them to acknowledge me, I put my hand up in front of his face to get his attention. The one I did it towards said "do not touch me" even though I didn't lay a finger on him. He kept talking over me, and wouldn't let me speak. I had to yell at these young disrespectful staffer boy's to get their attention. And that same day there were many people in the club that didn't have shirts on especially in the basketball court. Which per club rules everyone in the club is supposed to have a shirt on excluding the pool area. The problem is he had his shirt on it just wasn't buttoned up and they continuously kept messing with him, but no one else in the club. Finally I had spoken with the manager who made sure that my son wouldn't be harassed for the rest of our club visit. But why is your staff only harassing a young blonde white boy? And I mentioned it to the manager because all of the other people with no shirts on were not white. It seems they were trying to escalate thing's to start a fight. Probably because he looks much older than his age. But he is only 16. This is the first time this has happened in any club that we've been in. When is it within their jurisdiction to harass...
Read moreUPDATE Aug 2025: Lots of posters that say upgrades are coming. When I asked a team member if they were going to bring in some mats and small weights, he looked at me with pretty much no response. He told me to bring my own mat. WTH? Shall we start bringing our own weights too??
UPDATE May 2025: I don’t know who is giving these 5 star reviews. Maybe employees or friends? Nothing has changed. No mats, no small weights. Not very clean.
UPDATE 2025: Be prepared to bring your own mat and weights. I’ve complained (again) about the lack of equipment in the room where they hold classes. Associate was very honest when I said should I contact Corporate and he said it would just probably go in a black hole. Said they spent a lot of money on new HVACs so they didn’t have money. Not a good sign.
UPDATE: I think they have finally taken these bad reviews to heart. While there are still items that need to be addressed, there has been some improvement. I actually saw a person vacuuming the floor, lifting a treadmill up and vacuuming underneath it. (And there was a ton of stuff underneath it). The mirrors in the classroom were a bit cleaner but the floors could do with a refresh. There were 6 treadmills out of order, an improvement over the 10 I reported earlier. There is mold in the drinking fountains. I can’t report on the bathrooms as I try to avoid them. I also noticed there is someone at the front to greet you (except today) but previously there was usually no one there. Hopefully they will continue to make cleanliness a priority.
10 treadmills down and place is dirty, especially the room that holds classes. Mirrors have fingerprints all over, floor is filthy- hair, scuff marks. Have complained about this before and manager pretty much said he couldn’t do anything about it.
Maybe a call to the Health Department would motivate them Look how many reviews repeat how dirty it is and management gives the same old...
