Save A Lot — Local services in Saginaw

It's great if you're living on the cheap or in a quick fix, or live nearby. Great place for non-perishable food. But for hard earned money I would much rather buy meat, fruit, and vegetables that cost a little bit more elsewhere.

Besides they don't have a very good selection for fruit or vegetables. Not really too sure about the freshness for their spices or various condiments either. Be careful to check the expiration date if you are looking for those especially meat.. it's kind of just gross and off-putting when you see meat that has turned brown, or if you cannot tell that chicken or pork has gone bad.

They do sell items close to expiration date or past the date. Just a word of caution. Also just because is a cheap deal doesn't mean I want to risk food poisoning.

Items that they do have good cheap prices on include but may not be limited to: body soap, hand soap, laundry soap, dish soap, paper plates, plastic silverware, trash bags, napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, other related household cleaners and other related hygiene items.

Also its kind of an additional low blow to people who are trying to save money and yet this place charges you for plastic bags. Which I can see why, because their plastic bags are a lot more durable than let's say Kroger or Meijer etc. Unless you get lucky and the cashier doesn't feel like ringing up the price for each individual bag. Which has sometimes been the case. That's still a win in my book. Overall not exactly the best place but not exactly the worst...

Speaking strictly about the selection, I would have to give it a mediocre. You see recognized brands and off (unrecognized) brands. However the prices do not really live up to its namesake. Good intentions aside, I have always had issues with the groceries that are placed more in a residential area to target lower income. I feel it is strange that the prices of the food isn't really setup to save the customers... but how much income they can get for the food through food-stamp transactions. After all, the prices do not save (me) alot. Although, the location may be looked at as a convenience. Smaller easier to traverse, and does have a selection of fresh fruit and veggies. Store is not the cleanest, however the prices are great. While visiting this location I had difficulty finding a particular item. I then asked a cashier if she knew where the item was in the store. Unfortunately, she did not know where it was and did not offer assistance in finding the item. After searching high and low, I did eventually find what I was looking for. I feel this store is lacking staff.....only one cashier ringing up customers. I waited close to twenty minutes...
