I had high hopes from this place after reading their reviews & unfortunately had exactly the opposite. I'll start by saying the receptionist was nice but that was about the only pro which is why I gave two stars. I came in with a 1 ct moissanite solitaire with side stones in 14k white gold. Coming in I knew asking for it to be sized could be an issue with the side stones, but I was more than happy for a wedge or sizing beads instead. My first time here, the guy working there takes one look at it and says no not possible and thats the end of it. Then I have to ask about sizing beads or a wedge and the receptionist says that guy isn't the jeweler and I'd have to come back when the jeweler is there at their new location to look at it and decide about the sizing beads. So I come back another day and the jeweler is there this time. Although, I walk in and the store is empty, the jeweler looks up and doesn't say a word to us as I say hi how are you and just looks back down again. The receptionist comes out again and remembers we came to ask about sizing beads or a wedge. So she takes my ring to the jeweler who just ignored us and comes back saying its not possible because my ring isn't gold..so I tell them yes it is, they look at the mark on the inside of the ring that clearly says 14k white gold and then she goes back to the "jeweler" to inform him it is white gold. Then she comes back saying they can't put heat on the band to put sizing beads in because it could damage the main stone because its moissanite. All a proper jeweler has to do is take the correct cautionary measures to protect the gemstones when using any heat(putting it in water, removing the stones & resetting them etc). Moissanite also has a vaporization temperature of up to 2,000 degrees Farenheit, so it can very much so handle heat, it's not a cubic zirconia. I wouldn't have even minded if they just came forward and said they don't work with moissanite or aren't experienced with it, instead of trying to tell me my ring isn't white gold and a moissanite can't handle heat, talking to me like I bought it at Target and am asking them to size it. The whole time just felt like they were coming up with excuse after excuse on why they couldn't do anything to my ring, while trying to tell me things that were wrong/simply not true. If you don't want to work with moissanite then just say it outright or say it's not your expertise, don't try to treat your customers like they're stupid and don't know the basics of ring...
Read moreIf you're nervous about shopping for wedding rings, the people at Thompson Jewelers make you feel comfortable right away. If you have a limited budget, you can go to them without feeling embarrassed about it and they will show you what is available . They had more selections in our price range than other places did that we shopped.
After we purchased my ring set, I noticed a day later that there was a flaw and then I lost a diamond a few weeks later. The flaw wasn't their fault, it happened to be a prong that was too large and covering a diamond. Their technician was able to fix that and my missing diamond was replaced. Both fixed at the same time within a couple days.
We also purchased one of the Tennessee Whiskey Barrel rings for my fiance's wedding band. These are gorgeous and so affordable! You MUST see these and consider them! They're very striking and very different.
All in all, it was a very pleasant experience from the time we walked in the door and were greeted to the end of the purchases and repairs. They have better selections of all kinds of jewelry than I've seen near us and it's also a great place to have your jewelry repaired. Check them out first before you decide to make a...
Read moreThis is one of the best places still around! My husband purchased an engagement ring from them way back when they were still in Kissimmee at the Mill Creek Mall over 35 years ago. We used them to purchase other jewelry over the years until they moved and we had kids so had no extra money for jewelry. Anyway we went back in just recently to find a stronger ring for my husband as he is rough and his gold ban was bent and in bad shape. I have wanted to upgrade my rings for a while so we decided to look around and see if we could find something that I would be happy with. We received the best service, very attentive and friendly and they even remembered us from all those years ago. We both found something we are very happy with and even had an anniversary ring repaired that was affordable and turned out great! If you get anything out of this review know this, Thompson Jewelers is First Class and Top Notch in so many ways. They might not be the biggest but the service you receive and the longevity in our community should be an indication they do...
