This is a true diamond in the rough in western PA. Movie theaters have become so corporate and mechanical over time that it's no longer something we look forward to. Apollo Theatre changes that. The folks that own and operate this theater have a genuine love of movies, movie culture, and history. Prior to their ownership, I avoided this theater if at all possible. It was run down, dirty, and generally unpleasant. Much of it's history has been restored, with the original ticket window restored and a great deal of effort being put into showcasing the original plaster work and historic charm. Seats have been replaced, bathrooms remodeled, sound system upgraded...it's now a great place to go and see current movies. Ticket prices are very reasonable (roughly 60% of what the nearby chains charge), and the concession stand prices are much better than typical theater costs. Movies (if I recall correctly) are limited to standard (i.e. no 3D), but I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing. Luckily the 3D gimmick seems to have run it's course, so that really is not much of a negative. I highly recommend visiting the Apollo Theatre if you are looking to enjoy a film yourself, or are looking to treat the children. It's a much better experience than the megaplexes can provide, especially if you enjoy golden-era...
Read moreThe Apollo Theatre is wonderful! The owners are professional, family oriented, and pride themselves on providing their customers with a quality movie experience. Their ticket prices are great especially if you attend a matinee. The popcorn is fresh and the concessions are reasonably priced. They enforce a "no cell phone use" during the movie, which ensures that movie goers are not distracted by that one person that just has to answer his/her phone during the movie. The theater is renovated and clean. The Apollo Theatre is an asset to St Marys, and is worth the drive for people in the surrounding area. Thank you Apollo Theatre for always making us feel appreciated and valued as customers! You guys rock! - The Fedder Family...
Read moreI've been going to this movie theater since I was a kid before it was under different ownership and they used to have overnight movies or a midnight movie, as kids we loved going to these special movie nights, we used to take our blankets and a group of friends! It was so much fun, it actually gave us kids something to do around here! I love this theater now I just wish they still had the overnight or even just midnight movies once in a while. I think the kids would love it just like we did! Even as an adult I'd love to go to something like that. I think it would be great if they did a overnight movie, adults only one weekend then do kids the next weekend. Just an idea! Either way we will...
