What the hell is wrong with some of these reviewers? "Great selection," "convenient location," "competitive prices," "friendly staff," etc etc. These people go on and on about how they love the store, and are leaving 3 and 4 star reviews! Don't even get me started about the jabroni "Kevin White" who rated 1 star because the place got robbed and he was "traumatized," (it doesn't even sound like he was inside when it happened!) so he rates the place 1 star and says he's gonna go get his bud light elsewhere. The little nerd can't legally drink for another 2 years
Anyways, enough about the losers who can't figure out how to rate a business. Lets get to the actual store:
Its a Tuesday night and I'm, unfortunately, in the midway. Everything is closed by 9. And even worse, I can't find my debit card and all I have is my phone to pay with. Call up Scott's around 9:20 -- open til 10. Perfect. Accepts Google Pay. Perfect. Of course I'm expecting to pay a premium when I walk in, neighborhood store open til 10? They gotta make up for it somehow, right? Boy was I wrong. Besides the big names like a Costco, or Total Wine, or Morellis, their prices will go toe-to-toe with anyone else in the city. Don't just take my word for it -- go check out their awesome website. If you want to drive an hour round trip to save a dollar per bottle, then you clearly don't value your time all that much.
So I show up around 9:35, walk in, two guys behind the counter welcome me into the awesome looking store. Good music playing. Sample bottles sitting on a barrel that you could ask to try (It was getting late, so I figured I'd wait for another day, and a nice selection of spirits. Great craft selection (more in the walk in cooler), extremely competitive prices. I think I even saw some mix and match options but I don't remember. The only thing to knock about this spot is its location. Not because it is a bad location -- its pretty prime to be honest -- but because it ISNT LOCATED CLOSER TO ME!!
I will be going out of my way to stop back. This...
Read moreI've been a regular at Scott's for over 6 years. Moved to Grand Ave. 6 years ago and like the place because it is a convenient drive/walk from my place. Beautiful shop. Decent selection. But the customer service sometimes sucks. Young girls, pretty, but distracted behind the check-out counter either on their phones or on the point of sale computer internet. And sometimes some of the older employees act disinterested at check-out. I've noticed over the years that Scott's is never short on customers, but their employee turnover rate is noticeable. This may be because a lot of St. Thomas and Macalester students work here for a time and move on after graduation or for different reasons. Or it may be due to some mismanagement and neglect on the part of the owners. Kowalski's Wine and Spirits is a nice alternative to Scott's in the Macalester Groveland Neighborhood. Albeit not the same size store floor and selection but certainly a better...
Read moreScott's Wine & Spirits has friendly, respectful, and helpful employees and a great selection of alcohol. Rarely, do places have such willing to help employees like this location does! They really do a good job of making sure you are finding what you are looking for. They are also very knowledgeable and resourceful, this is great when you're wondering what your next craft beer selection is going to be!
They have a huge selection of wines and beers. It is a little bit cramped for space, but the building isn't very large.
It's also worth to note that they utilize the alcohol delivery application, Drizly! It's a fairly new service, and it's great to see that this location has taken advantage of it to provide their products with convenience.
I always go to this location and I will...
