Labor Day, took the trip here with a friend since we came across their booth at Metrocon and finally got around to checking them out. Upon entering, was warmly greeted by the worker, and had great vibes. Both the left and right side walls had a ton of figures from a great selection of anime. The regular toy companies were about MSRP; about $30-$40 for most of the regular figures. They also had a ton of great and higher priced ones— a $240 Erza Scarlet 1/7 scale I think, and an awesome $440 FMA Brotherhood one I never saw before. The worker, unfortunately I didn’t catch his name, was very helpful and seemed to have a bit of wiggle room if we bought two from the same set. Maybe next time, as I knew my day would be manga hauls later. They also had manga in the back right corner and had your usual suspects, but a lot of other series I haven’t seen at Barnes or BAM, so good to see variety. I was more impressed with their pricing on what I assume was used Blu-ray of anime. Got great prices on a Yu Yu Hakusho Blu-ray and Angel Beats, which I intend to leave with my friend who I came with to introduce him to the feels. A lot of different little merch and stickers, acrylics for characters you don’t see often like Revvy from Black Lagoon. All the time in the store, they had a big 75” or so Sony TV playing new anime from Netflix, and the worker and I chatted a bit about it. Others say their prices are “outrageous”, but from what I remember back in the day (2013) of anime Blu-ray and figure collecting then, the pricing comes from the makers of the statues. Comparing to a Google search, it’s a little bit more than those, but paying $30-$40 more for the same thing right there where I can inspect it, support a business that clearly is passionate about serving the community on its anime and otaku fix is something I would be glad to do. It’s a bit of a drive for me, but I signed up for their text rewards and got heads up with my purchase and my friends, I already got some savings ready for me. In the shared picture I got an awesome Bandai Grandista statue of Zoro from One piece for $45, a couple stickers for my Chromebook for $5 a pop of Makima and Rangiku, and 4 Blu-ray’s at $10 a pop. All very fair, if not amazing deals. Will ABSOLUTELY be back, just more prepared to take Erza home...
Read moreseems like people are a bit confused. when we saw the flyer, we commented on it without hostility. the real problem arose when the staff decided that rather than listen to their community, they went on to publicly target the person who called them out. They blocked everyone that left a comment, despite it starting as a constructive criticism.
to the person who called last year's hurricane irrelevant: the event ended up being dragged over an hour later than scheduled the day before evacuations. we understand that stuff happens but nobody received any updates or timeframes, so we were standing outside waiting for something to happen for almost 90 minutes. the problem was not about the wait, but the lack of communication. this seems to be a persistent issue when constructive criticism is taken immediately as an attack and the business feels the need to target a customer when listening or ignoring was an option.
I've also been shopping at anime fix for years, and i've loved my experiences up until recently. unfortunately, when one's first reaction to being called out is to feel victimized rather than trying to do better, it suggests that they know what they're doing is wrong and intend to continue against better judgement. TLDR; I'm disappointed by the way this business has conducted itself towards its customers recently. The organization quality of their events has been declining, they cannot accept criticism, and they go out of their way to target customers who have problems. As someone who's worked at and owned small businesses, the goal should not be to create hostility but to dispel problems as they arise. and i want to make it very clear that even now these reviews are left in hope of improvement. until the staff want to demonstrate a level of maturity and listen to complaints not as an attack from haters but a request from patrons, these reviews...
Read moreI have supported Anime Fix for more than 5 years. I try to go to all of their events and the amount of support to local artists and creators is amazing. Many of their events are catered around artist showcases and causes that support the local community including donations to animal shelters. The back of their store has a bunch of fan made art and unique creations. They are extremely welcoming and helpful and the community very much appreciates them in return. Seeing all these recent 1 star reviews and comments on the insta post just seems very immature on the reviewers part and they honestly need to grow up. Review bombing because of 1 little section of a marketing flyer corner from a local small business is child behaviour. Especially when you bring up hurricane stuff a year later that is irelevant and a straight up lie to justify your score, I know cause I was there in person the whole event lol. Real petty. The image in question was probably a stock image and some adobe fill afterwards. Really not an issue whatsoever given its a bare bones flyer on Insta. It's a business, grow up. And im one to always support artists so if it was an issue I'd say so. This business has done more for the community and artists in the last couple of years than you review bombers ever have in your life and probably the rest of your lives. Trying to hurt a small business's reputation(a great small business at that) which could hurt their ability to stay open is sad and selfish. Grow up and get out of your delusional bubble and come to reality. Thank you Anime Fix for doing what you do and the safe space/support you foster!! Plus the awesome...
