Subject: Formal ADA Complaint â Crunch Fitness St. Petersburg (October 26, 2025)
To Whom It May Concern,
For more than six months, I attended Crunch Fitness in St. Petersburg, FL with my trained service dog without any issues. During that entire time, no one ever informed me that bringing my dogâon and off leash and always well-behavedâwas a problem. My service dog has never shown aggression, disrupted others, or caused damage of any kind. She was not bothering anyone, staff never mentioned anything to me, and I brought her in for nearly 6 months without any issues. Occasionally, Iâd let her off a leash and sheâd sit next to me. Which wasnât an issue for anyone at the gym.
On Sunday, October 26, 2025, at approximately 10:40 AM, I entered the facility as usual. Upon arrival, I was immediately confronted by two front desk employees. One of themâa light-skinned maleâdemanded that I show âpapersâ or documentation for my service dog, which is a direct violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). When I calmly explained the law and stated that such papers are not legally required, he responded, âI donât care,â and told me to âshut up.â The second employee stood by silently while the manager on duty falsely claimed that âcorporate had new rules.â I was then asked to leave, despite being in full compliance with ADA guidelines.
Their behavior was unlawful, disrespectful, and deeply unprofessional. I later discovered that my membership had been revoked, that someone at the gym forged my signature, and that a false statement was recorded claiming I had cursed at staffâsomething I did not do. To make matters worse, staff called the police, and officers were visibly present outside the gym, even though there was no disturbance or justification for their involvement.
This entire situation was deeply upsetting. I live with anxiety and stress-induced seizure episodes, and such a confrontation could have easily triggered a medical emergency. My father, who is an attorney, confirmed that the staffâs actions were discriminatory and violated federal law.
I am requesting that Crunch Fitness Corporate: Conduct a full investigation into this incident and the behavior of the employees involved. Reinstate my membership in good standing, without penalty or restriction. Confirm that I may continue to use the facility with my trained service dog, in full compliance with ADA law. Require comprehensive ADA compliance and disability sensitivity training for all staff at the St. Petersburg location. Remove any false statements or forged documentation from my membership file. Provide a written apology for the inappropriate treatment I experienced.
No one should be subjected to this kind of humiliation and discriminationâespecially in a facility that claims to promote health, wellness, and inclusion. I expect written confirmation that this complaint has been received and that corrective action is being taken...
Read moreFirst off I want to acknowledge that the trainers are great. And would give my trainer 5+ stars. Heâs awesome.
The gym is fantastic too. All the equipment, location, cleanliness. 5+ stars.
The regular monthly fee, itâs affordable and well worth it. 5+ stars.
It is a bit packed during peak hours, but I donât mind that, and the plenty of members show how many people are enthusiastic to work there. 5+ stars using the equipment you want if you select a good time to go.
My low rating is from the difficulty canceling and /or changing the recurring bi-weekly personal training charges. So be forewarned if you do want to do personal training, be 100% sure it fits in your budget, choose the correct program, and stay vigilant to take all the necessary steps to cancel if neededâŚ
I was doing the âPT30â 30 minute training sessions and decided to upgrade to the âPT60â 60 minute training⌠thinking that it would be a simple upgrade and switch⌠nope, was charged for both. Brought it up to my trainer and credit to him for trying to get it handled, but he was notified his bosses that they could not reverse the charge, but I ended up just doing an additional session, and since I enjoyed it I didnât mind too much. But at that time I filled out the proper paperwork for the 10 day notice to cancel my PT30 (July 30)⌠fast forward to 13 days later (Aug 13) was charged an additional PT30. Thatâs twice I was double charged for 2 different training programs. Called the club, the front desk people have no authority to reverse charges or cancel memberships so Iâm expecting a call back from the appropriate staff to handle this.
And to be honest I feel really bad for the trainers and staff, cause it seems like they are under a lot of pressure to increase revenue and avoid cancellation.
Unfortunately this kind of occurrence is too often associated with any gym, Crunch included. A better business practice would be to embrace this problem in the industry and set yourself apart by not having these issues. The customer service would pay off in the long run⌠Had high hopes that this place would be different. Obviously that was not my experience.
I will provide an update to my review if and when there are any accommodations done to my...
Read moreVery disappointed in Crunch Fitness as a chain. I was a member for a very long time while I lived in Florida. They didnât cancel my membership when I requested it in Sarasota a year ago, so I ended up paying several months without going to the gym at all. Yes, I should check statements monthly-whoops single, full time working, honorably disabled veteran, mother. No, the management team did not refund any of it nor offer anything in return.
While on a trip in Tampa for a couple of weeks, I needed to find a temporary gym and was familiar with Crunchâs equipment and friendly staff so I decided to sign up here. I told the staff Iâd be in town for two weeks and I was told the cheapest option for me was to buy a one month membership for roughly $52.00. I paid that amount- which I found out wasnât the best option. On todays visit, I asked to use the tanning beds they have, which I was told I could use when I signed up, but today I was told I was not allowed to use the tanning beds since I wasnât an official member⌠they also donât offer any military or service/first responder discounts which usually doesnât bother me that much except for all the other issues Iâve encountered with this business.
Mistakes happen but to not attempt to assist or offer something to make up for the miscommunication and errors is very unprofessional. It seems to be a Money hungry organization at the top with this chain⌠Iâve been 4 times since I signed up. I am not coming back. Keep the change.
Edited to add: As I was leaving the gym, I approached the front counter where about 7 staff members were standing around. I told one of them that I was not looking for a refund but wanted to cancel my membership. He said ok, heâs never done that before and approached a manager. The manager stated âall month plan sales were final.â I again reiterated that I understand and was not looking for a refund but would not be coming back. He looked at me with a smug expression and said âok, see ya.â
Iâm sure thereâs another gym out there that would actually respect and appreciate members feedback, even...
