Bought an Okin Recliner 5 years ago. Shortly after the warranty expired, the motor stopped working. I called the store and they referred me to their furniture repair contractor. The contractor, after about 2 weeks came by and diagnosed the problem and told me to get a new motor. So, I called the store and they gave me a part number for a transformer to be purchased on Amazon. Well, I did not need a transformer, I needed a motor. On the Page with the transformer, there was an Okin motor which I purchased. When it arrived, I let the store know and they once again referred me to their repair contractor. It was the wrong motor. So I returned it to the Amazon vendor who charged me a $30 restocking fee and the cost of return mail, about $35--it was a heavy motor. Then, the store referred me to a parts supplier who told me they have not been able to get this part for the last 6 months, but I should try again in a couple of weeks. Well, they still have not had any success in getting the part, but I should try calling them again in another month or two. In the meantime, I have contacted OkinAmerica.com whose website will not allow direct contact with the company, but I did locate on their site the locations and email addresses for 2 of their American distributors to whom I have sent photos of the motor label which correctly identifies the part number. So, with any luck, they will be able to find a replacement motor for me. Meanwhile, even though I asked the service contractor specifically if it may be the switch or the transformer that could be the problem, he seemed not to know for certain if that could be the case, but we should start by replacing the motor and if that doesn't work, we'll have eliminated that possibility and can then move on with a new switch or, perhaps, a new transformer.
To conclude, customer service at San Rafael Scandinavian Designs is lousy. Not only have they passed this problem on to me, their attitude has been less than acceptable. When I asked if they would prorate the current value of my chair and apply it to the purchase of a new chair, they had the gall to send me an advertisement for a current sale which will give me a 20% discount on a new chair. I guess it never occurred to these folks that I will never do business with their company again and will certainly never recommend their company to...
Read moreThey carry nice pieces. The problem occurs between eyeing the furniture conceptually in the showroom and the delivery. My couch was slammed on the asphalt by the delivery team while I watched, my leather chair face down on the asphalt while the delivery team scrambled to align on how they'd get my furniture from the center of the street where they unprofessionally and hazardously left their truck in the middle of high end residences to the intended destination which my first floor apartment. My custom ordered bar stooled arrived broken after a few months for them to arrive from Los Angeles. Store management responded immediately by hiring a freelance furniture repair man who sat in my apartment for over an hour talking about how nice the apartment was before placing his soiled denim knee in the seat of the bar stool. Nice man but at approximately 260 pounds I tried convincing him that the stool could not bear his aggressive weighted approach. He conceded and left me with the spare part (the seat only to the bar stool in a box) but not before calling the store management to say he lacked the proper tools to remedy the problem. And that sums up my nightmarish and a very pricey undesirable...
Read moreIf you need new furniture (and you don't want to wait 6-9 months to actually get it) you have to go to Scandinavian Designs. We needed to furnish a home quickly and had looked online at many other places and nothing was in stock. We visited the Scandinavian Design showroom in San Rafael and were immediately asked if we needed help by Thayer. He asked us a few questions and started showing us items that he thought would match what we were looking for (including taking us to a floor model couch at a big discount that was exactly what we wanted). The showroom is huge! Thayer helped us put together a dining room, living room, entryway and bedrooms, of all in stock merchandise. A week later, Thayer even texted us when a few new items came on the floor model sale that he thought we would like and even let us know when an item was going on sale for Black Friday. He went above and beyond with respect to customer service and had great taste. The furniture was delivered all at once, on time, assembled and...
