I have been a customer of State Street Storage since 2009. The fee for a 10x10 storage was monthly deducted from my credit card. Sometime in late 2021 the payment was rejected; I don't know the reason because my card was not expired. I didn't realize the charge was not going through, State Street Storage had my email address and my phone number but never bothered to contact me instead they sent notices to my old address and when they didn't hear back, they decided to auction my belongings. After 14 years of being their customer auctioning my items was what they decided I deserved. I lost many valuable personal belongings included documents, photos, and items that I saved when I fled a warzone country, they are all gone. To this day, they have not apologized, instead argued it was my fault for not updating my mailing address that they assume I was dead. When I found out I was furious, you cannot imagine my anger, I was not expecting this after 14 years of renting the storage. In this time and age where business is conducted 90 percent by email and phone how come it never occurred to them to try to email or call me before auctioning my items? Their action caused me a lot of pain, I try hard to avoid thinking what items I had in the storage. If I were you, I would pick...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen using a 10 x 10 storage unit here for the past two years. This place is one of the most expensive storage places in SB. I've complained several times about the inside lighting - when you are at your unit, sorting things, the lights switch off on a timer (they have motion sensors which turn the lights on when you walk out of the elevator on your way to your unit). The lights turn off after only 5 minutes. Absolutely frustrating when trying to access your unit and sort items. I asked several times for either the timer to be adjusted to 30mins, or the light sensor overridden upon request. The office manager would not do either. I asked to speak to the owner (at this point stating that I prefer to use local businesses, such as this, rather than big corporations!!), and I was told that two of the owner members have recently passed away, and the remaining member of the family doesn't want to deal with any requests. So there you have it, a company owner who doesn't give a care in the world about the business or it's customers. The manager at the office said she tried to talk to the owner about lighting issues and the owner 'simply didn't want to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStorage itself is ok. I have several issues with them however; the woman I spoke to on multiple occasions both in person and over the phone is unprofessional and does not seem to know what she is doing. They are not offering their moving truck services "due to covid" despite still advertising on their website about it. The elevator was not large enough to fit half of a sectional couch so I had to take it up 3 flights of stairs. Considering how much I paid for the unit, I should not have had as many problems that I did. This was the only place that had storage space left so I didn't really have a choice, but they have made moving more stressful than it should have been. I got several calls on different mornings (back to back if I did not answer) while I was either in class or work just for them to tell me my lock looked weird. Overall, unprofessional vibes and not the most convenient...
