Got data recovery? This place is the best for that! They are extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and genuinely nice people to work with. Rebecca was amazing in keeping me updated on the status of my 2022 MacBook Pro, which suddenly stopped turning on after being charged for a day, even though it was working just fine three days prior.
On a Wednesday, I called Apple to see if they could assist me. They told me my options were to wait until Saturday at 5:40 PM for them to attempt to revive my computer. However, they also mentioned that if they couldn't get my system operating, they would need to do a complete OS reinstall, wiping my entire computer clean. This wasn’t acceptable to me since I hadn’t backed up my data in a few months.
I then reached out to Dotfoil, who specialize in data recovery, and they were able to see me that same day. I opted to pay the express fee, but it was totally worth it. The great news was that my data was successfully recovered, which was something Apple did not offer. So, thank you, Dotfoil! 🙏🤘
Unfortunately, I also learned that Apple released the MacBook Pro M1 models in 2022 knowing that they would have issues. While some computers can be saved, others cannot. Sadly, mine decided to stop powering on just after my warranty period ended. Dotfoil suggested it might be something with the firmware, but ultimately, my 16" laptop is now toast—goodbye $2,500 or more! I never thought I would say this, as I have been a fan of Apple for decades, but I’m really losing faith in the quality of...
Read moreBE AWARE - I've used Dot Foil for years and in the past - and LOVED them. Post Covid the business was sold to an employee and things have changed.
I NEVER write poor reviews EVER. And if you're ok with leaving your computer somewhere where you will have no communication - no receptionist or other employees (just owner), no open business hours, and you're not in a hurry to get your computer back - try them out. But be aware this is not your typical business practice.
Details below:
This business does not have open office hours - once the computer has been dropped off by appointment, there is no way to walk in and ask any further questions or concerns - doors are locked.
If you leave your computer there and need to get in touch with them its absolutely impossible to get in touch with anyone. They do not have a receptionist who answers calls or returns calls. You are told to leave one message and only one, and they will get back to you. Good luck with that.
-The date you were told the computer would be ready - its never ready. When they say it will be ready which ok I get it - BUT CALL THAT DAY to communicate with your client to let them know whats going on, rather then calling 5 days past the date it was supposed to be ready, to then tell them it will be another 4 days.
-Do you have a question about something they did to your computer once you get it back? You leave a message - three weeks later, still no call back....I'm...

In the past Dotfoil was extremely helpful and competent. Unfortunately my recent experience was a disaster. The internal hard disk on my imac failed and I brought it in for a replacement. The tech wasn't paying attention when I told him on the phone that it was a 3 TB SATA with over 1 TB in use. He refused to replace it with another SATA drive (which are readily available and Dotfoil even sells external SATA drives at the front desk) and insisted on replacing it with an SSD drive. He then discovered what I had told him that a 1 TB drive was too small. A 2TB drive had to be ordered and took a week from when I brought my computer in to arrive. When I picked up the computer with the new drive installed and took it home it wouldn't boot. I immediately called and no one returned my call until the next day. I finally booted the computer in repair mode and ran the disk utility which made it bootable. I then discovered that the OS hadn't been updated as requested. I spent $600+, waited 8 days, then spent hours of my own time to get it to boot when simply installing a SATA disk in the first place would have cost far less and taken only a day. Just so readers will realize I'm credible, I have 40+ years of teaching every aspect of computer hardware and software, headed a CS dept in a major university and worked directly with Apple computers...
