We’ve been loyal customers of Mimi’s Crafts for over 20 years, visiting regularly with my handicapped mother and aunt, who have always enjoyed painting keepsakes together during visits. Sadly, since the new ownership took over, the experience has drastically gone downhill.
On their most recent visit, they were told—quite abruptly—that moving forward they would only be allowed to come in twice per piece, and that painting must be completed within six months of purchase. This was never a policy before, and the way it was communicated felt aggressive and unwelcoming. Disheartened by the interaction, they decided it would be their last time visiting Mimi’s.
To make matters worse, when they were called to say their pieces had finished firing, they were informed one of them had broken—without a hint of an apology. The only “resolution” offered was a gift card for the original value or nothing at all. When they went to pick up what was left of the piece, the owner was present and still didn’t offer a single apology.
This is not the kind of customer service or family-friendly environment we used to know and love. It’s deeply disappointing to see such a treasured place become so unaccommodating and indifferent toward long-time customers. We will be taking our business—and our loyalty—to one of the many other paint-your-own studios in the area that still prioritize kindness, flexibility,...
Read moreThis review was written last Friday before I left Mimi's Crafts but I waited to post until we picked up our fired item.
Groupons users, read this:
I called ahead to ask how the Groupon worked. I had bought 2 Groupons for a total value of $60. Mimi assured me if we kept the grand total of our items at $60 or under we could use 2 Groupons as I was bringing 3 children and all I would have to pay is the sales tax. I literally asked her "So as long as we keep the total under $60 we're good and I only pay tax?" She said multiple times "We work with you, we make it work for the kids". We chose 3 items totalling $59. I should only have had to pay $4.13. In the end, Mimi advised me my total was $10 and change because the Groupons didn't cover everything. She would not or could not combine the Groupons, which is the opposite of what she said on the phone. Her name is on the door; all she had to do was put $30 on one and $29 on the other. That is what working with customers looks like. Although the place is nice and the kids had fun, with this is our first...
Read moreI will NEVER come back! The staff repeatedly tried rushing us to leave. They offered my children sidewalk chalk to play with out front while I finished painting. Then they had the nerve to scream at my children and threatened to kick them out because they didn’t pickup sidewalk chalk the second they were done playing with it. My children were not acting bad by any means, they were just coming inside to talk to their parent. If the staff had a problem with my kids she should have approached me with her concerns. She should NEVER yell at someone else’s kids. I was so angry I was shaking. She tried to laugh it off as “my teacher voice”. Absolutely not! How dare you act as though that’s anyway to speak to anyone adult or child. She then came to my table and tried to make a game of having the kids clean the table. Keep in mind I was still working on my painting, but again trying to get us out. This is clearly not a place to bring your children for a fun family day. Spent over $100 so my children could be made to feel small and...
