the aquatic center has been closed for 4 weeks for renovations. upon reopening today Sept 9, 2024 i found the following. the exterior lights including the parking lot lights were out staff did not know why. it looked closed. there is a temporary entrance utilizing the handicap ramp, it is covered in mud. the normal entrance with the new awnings is still under construction. the rec pool is 94.4 and the lap pool is 74.2. a guard reported that someone forgot to turn the rec pool heat off and did not turn the heat on for the lap pool on saturday. the pool is not open sunday and apparently not monitored. The temporary large on deck AC unit is not working. the air is a mixture of heat, humidity, fresh paint, and a little chlorine. the new large dehumidifier is not installed or on site. the plenums going from the new unit to the new flex vents (they were in place) were the wrong size and they are awaiting replacements. the monday morning weird pool temps are a fairly common occurrence. they need someone at the pool on sundays. this was a botched reopening. i'm sure (fingers crossed) they...
Read moreComing from States all over the country and seeing many different aquatic centers I have to say this aquatic center is well equipped. Whether you're coming for swim lessons, free swim, water aerobics, or a multitude of other swimming activities you have ample space to do so here. This is not advertised as a water park, it is an indoor Olympic pool and wade pool. The water is tested throughout the day and it is very clear and clean. The staff is courteous and helpful, the shower rooms are exactly what you expect in a aquatic center, smell of chlorine is in the air. If you want splash pads and water slides there is a water park in pooler, a YMCA on Wilmington Island and YMCA in Pooler to adequately appease the kids.. The aquatic center is strictly for swimming, water therapy, water exercise classes, and learning to swim. There are wade pools but the fun factor isn't a priority, they are greared towards...
Read moreDirty water (literally could not see 3 feet in front of you WITH goggles on), dirty pool area, moldy smelling, not family friendly, nothing for the little ones to do if they aren't swimmers, no diving boards, no slides, no fountains, grumpy, whistle happy lifeguards and expensive at 5 bucks a person (2 and under free) considering the lack of swimming space, amenities and filth. Basically you all stand together in filthy water and try to get your 5 bucks worth before fleeing. It is a damn shame this is the best this county can offer its residents. Coming from a very family friendly state, Utah, with dozens of CLEAN public pools equipped with slides, boards, splash pads, shallow wading pools for toddlers, etc..? I will walk to the beach on a hot holiday before ever stepping near...
