Brigido's Fresh Market — Local services in Scituate

The good: fresh-made food ready to eat. The bad: some embarrassingly sky-high prices.

I am not a frequent shopper, because I do not live very close by, but have visited a few times a year over the last decade or so. I enjoy their variety of bakery items and prepared foods. Some are made in-house, and others are locally sourced.

I visited in the past week on my way back home to RI from out of state, to get a few groceries and meals. I planned to buy at least enough produce for a few big salads. However, I was stopped in my tracks when I saw how exorbitant the produce prices were, especially compared to a year ago. I'm talking NINE dollars for a six-pack of baby cucumbers (but a single English cucumber was $2, pretty normal price). Almost $6 for a bag of Dole salad (greens mix & dressing), usually about $3 elsewhere. I don't know how anyone could afford to shop there regularly for all their groceries.

On the other hand, I picked up a box of pizza strips for $7 which I thought was very reasonable (and they are delicious). They were labeled as Brigido's but they were right next to other "pizza" items from DePetrillo's (which runs ~$9 for the same half-tray size). And a sliced Iggy's dark rye pullman for under $5.

I'll definitely be shopping there again in the future but suggest paying very close attention to prices before putting items...

Overall, any of Brigido's 3 locations (Pascoag, No. Scituate, and No. Smithfield) provide a fairly good market experience. Not, repeat, Not a "supermarket" by definition, these stores nevertheless offer enough variety in their inventory to satisfy those that prefer multiple-choice, as well as generic selections from IGA (International Grocer's Association). I truly LOVE their deli (no taking a number here!) and bakery. The former being mostly Boar's Head, and the latter created from their own kitchen. Locally sourced veggies, fruits, and meats as well. Good sales items that don't require a membership card....

I usually like this place but, sign for garlic flavored olive oil, sign stated $7.99 purchase with bottle, $5.99 refill. Only one size bottle. No where was it stated 2 sizes of bottles. Charged $11.99. Went to store for price correction. Told that was the price of the size bottle. I stated only one size bottle available, told by customer service, "I know". Was never informed of different bottle sizes, price clearly states the $7.99 & 5.99 price. Last time I'll shop at this IGA. I normally support local and smaller businesses. Really disappointed in the way I was treated with an extreme...
