From the moment I arrived I was approached with horrible attitude. The man who confronted me did not even provide a proper greeting . All he did was ask what was in the box I was carrying and I didnât even get a chance to walk five steps from my car door. I felt so unwelcomed and everything was so rushed. I told him in the box was a cat that I could no longer provide care for due to health conditions in our home and he immediately without any judgement said no to bring him back to our town and find a shelter nearby. I then told him that other shelters we called sent us to Secuacus. He then had given us two different options to go to other towns with shelters nearby but told us he didnât even have the phone number or locations of any of them. He did not offer us to come inside and speak furthermore of information and he did not help us in any way. Once I left I searched up other shelters nearby but there was no sign of existence. A couple minutes after searching, I called secaucus animal shelter to see if now that theyâre in the office they will provide me information on the two options the man made. A lady answered and began to ask questions regarding the cat, again with unnecessary attitude. Once I responded with my form of attitude, she told me to calm down. I immediately told her about the horrible experience I went through upon arriving and she changed her attitude completely. Finally she was nice enough to provide me with the information I desperately needed and went about our separate ways. I did not like my experience at Secaucus Animal Shelter at all. I wouldnât recommend anyone to come here unless youâre very tolerable with attitude. Judging upon the other five star reviews, theyâre only nice when an animal is being adopted but never when an...
Read moreI eagerly applied for an adoption here at the recommendation of a friend whose brother had adopted his dog here. My happiness and excitement in meeting the lovely abandoned pupster were quickly shot down by the lady running this place. If you happen to have an animal that you would love to adopt, by all means, itâs certainly better to rescue one in need than to purchase a pet, but beware, the woman in charge, Chris Conte, will not make it easy for you - her attitude is terrible.
This woman could barely look me in the eye when speaking to me. She was gruff, curt, rude and condescending (she literally rolled her eyes when I said that I currently live in an apartment) but yet wanted to show off her physical feat of returning to work after knee surgery (lifted up her sweats to show us and everything). She told me to hurry in and submit my application because she was closing the process within three days of being granted custody of said dog. The very next day, she emailed to say that the puppy had been given to another applicant - none of my references were checked. The woman does as she pleases. If you are on her good side, it probably works out well for you, if for whatever reason she determines she doesnât like you, the experience is fairly traumatic.
The other staff are nice people and help provide details about animals and the adoption process. They all seem to be scared of the lady in charge and seem a little beaten down but are clearly dedicated to the animals there.
You should also be prepared for your arrival to this shelter. There are dozens and dozens of feral cats roaming the entrance to the property. Youâll need to ring a bell to enter the shelterâs office, but expect the door to be answered in a leisurely fashion while the cats...
Read moreI have never felt so discriminated against in my life. It was my first time ever applying to adopt a pet and it was horrifying. I was told these puppies weâre going to be shown today at 12:30 so I arrive exactly at 12:28 The minute I walked in I was looked at up and down by CHRIS and was told there was a problem with her receiving applications. Itâs a good thing I had the original application with me. My honest opinion is she never had intentions of showing me the puppy. She stated she had to ask specific questions and I quote âyouâd be surprised the animal cruelty I see in some homes. Letâs just say I was appalled ! It gets better my landlord called her back regarding her reference check and he was accused of not being who he said he was. He stated he has never dealt with such unprofessionalism by anyone. After her telling me I was the last applicant , when I called her back to confirm her speaking to my landlord she said she printed out several other applications and scheduled three other appointments. She outright LIED... yet the blond haired blue eyed lady that was seen before me was approved on the spot for a puppy. She never checked my references and this is within an hour timeframe from me showing up at the shelter till the time I called her back. This lady needs to be reported. HORRIFIC Experience, unprofessional to say the least. Last but not least, after her telling me the dog costs $700.00 she asked me if I wanted to call my husband and see if he was okay with me paying that price for the...
