This Haunt is a definite go to. The price is great both preorder or at gate. The timing is nice as it's a solid 45 minute activity, feels like more during which is so much better than feeling like less.
The pre-game area was a little sparse with things to do and see, the fire juggler didn't perform when we were there, understandably too windy. Cheap drinks and food was available, as was a perfectly priced booth for t-shirts and the like, regular food truck fare. I say perfectly because I didn't feel ripped off buying 2 t-shirts and a beanie.
Now for the Haunt. Good: Well placed scares and lots of opportunity to get scared. Each segment of the haunt had a story of some sorts. The costumes were well done, some more than others. A unique couple of scares really made even a jaded goer like myself jump or flinch.
Physically demanding at times which was a great way to force my perspective and expect more scares, tightening my senses.
Bad: Timing was off from the start, we ended up bumping into the group before us and it resulted in less scares and even slower movement. I believe it also resulted in many of the actors being reset too late for my group to get triggered. Felt semi empty, whole sections of the haunt were devoid of life, at first it was tense but them it turned into a guessing game of "did I go the right way?" Which i then lose the mood because i never want to miss a good scare. Lighting in the beginning was an issue, which made any scene that was setup into a dark smudge of nothing, no moods at all. Some very cheap jumps that may have been caused by a timing issue. Not a complete bad, as it wasn't the haunts fault.
Overall:
I know the bads list looks long, however a couple of things happened on our visit to this really good haunt that kinda didn't help. 1)a woman behind us in our "group" was trying to not psych herself via scares... great for her, bad for us. 2)the group ahead of us was slow so there was a whole section of scares just gone.
The haunt was one of the better ones for what was there, made me jump and I don't normally jump. I highly recommend this haunt to any beginner or semi seasoned haunt enthusiasts. Anyone who is beyond that may not enjoy it at all, though they do offer a "Extreme" night which allows touching and such.
Oh and unlike us and a caravan of other people like us, the entrance wasn't well lit nor manned, the person was near the gate but at no point did we see an arrow showing which entrance at the Seekonk Speedway to use... it was the one right before the tractor...
Read moreWent last night 10/13/2024. Spent 102 dollars for tickets and the 8 tokens. (Monster Combo). Now on to the review:
First impression upon walking in was very lackluster. It just felt thrown together with the "Midway" feeling as if it was built with scrap wood. Not many character actors walking around. No halloween music playing, one food stand, no food trucks, a trailer that sells merchandise and a handful of makeshift carnival games. (Axe throwing, Plate breaking, etc...) A lot of props have seen better days and most seem that they have been reused and well past their shelf life.
Attractions (Haunted Houses) 3 in total.
Mercy - A mine/vampire theme with some ok acting. It wasn't to bad, not that scary but was one of the more interactive haunts. A lot of areas that were dark with no scares and just winding hallways made of 4 by 8 wood walls painted black.
Victor - Frankenstein lab theme. This was the best in my opinion. The fog walk in the beginning with the character actor leading you through was great. I wish the whole haunt was like that. Note to the creators (fog like this freaks people out and makes you feel confined and it really hits the I can't make it out senses).
Klunkys- clown theme. Complete missed opportunity. It was dark in most areas. Minimal clown music and did not feel like I was in a fun house. Where was the strobe lights, checkered board rooms, bubble machines, fog and blacklights, the costumes looked cool but I had a tough time seeing them due to the lighting which was almost non existent. Oh and to start off the haunt the clown face is attached on one side to a trailer from a trailer truck. It just looked cheesy. And the exit is near the start, so when the little girl with her parents came out and she said that wasn't that scary. It really ruined the start.
Note to creators (ends of haunts need to be away from the start) people coming out need to not ruin the experience weather it's good or bad.
So to finish it was OK for what it was. Not really scary and not worth the high price tag. All in all a 2 scare factor out of 5.
I've worked on haunts and I walk through these with the creative juices flowing and I saw so many missed opportunities here. It's OK to scare people to the point of leaving over it. That's good publicity, people want that and sadly this haunt ain't it. But hey if the creators see this, and I know they won't, I'm willing to give you some ideas...
Read moreThis is the same company that runs Factory of terror. What harmed the haunt more is forcing people into groups of 10 or more. And poor timing. While FOT was topnathc and left me wanting to do it again. This one kinda felt lacking in many departments.
Madam Guillotines: Theme: 4 Scares:2 This is where you redeem your tickets and is the first haunt. The first part theaming wise was quite good, But then mid way got extreamly repetive with the Guillotines. It felt kinda lacking there. Also due to the poor group spacing and the amount a group behind me caught up.. (one of there kids grabed onto my bag...Didnt like that. But it was a good set design, How ever because of the issues previous stated the scares didnt feel effective.
Black Cat theater: Theme 4 scares 3 This one was quite good and sort of saved it form being bumped down, Good scares and theming though the actor timing where off. They would pop out a bit to late at times and one window was kinda broken spoiling the scare. How ever they committed a sin of reusing a theme in another house. (There two clown zones in the attractions in separate haunts.while tetchily Madams is jesture still kinda the same.)
SLasher 2: Theming 3 Scares 2 Insane asylum with multi zones, need I say more. We got the asylum with some excellent set design and some good scares, But then junkyard, Swamp and Christmas? Yup Christmas! As some examples, The return of the spirit Halloween shock prong returns. (seriously stop that). The scares felt very lacking due to being shoved in with a larger group. And this was majorly disappointing and mid. I was hoping for Krampus to show in the christmas scene but the scene lead nowhere. (And one of the doors kinda spoils the magic of haunting.)
Ate some food though its overpriced, no prices on the food either. (Fried ppj and Koolaid totalling $35 Dang bro). Sadly this is why I gave the haunt the star amount you see (the kids behind me wher enot part of the issue...
