The selection is better than most other shops in MA. I have been to so many comic shops out there it's not even funny, so seeing the amount of back issues they had was a welcome surprise.
When I went to check out, the man behind the register told me the total price, including tax. I was taken aback a little and informed him that comics are not taxable in MA. He laughed at me and told me he has been selling comics for over 20 years. He then said that I was not the only person who "tried to pull that one" (So, other people must have told him before and he outright denied them). I asked him to google it and he will see, he wouldn't at first but finally relented. As soon as he googled it, he was informed that comics, new and collectible, are tax exempt in MA.
He then tried to play it off like this was a new law - that it must have changed this year. It has been this way for many years! He then said "well, you learn something new everyday" and re-rang the purchases. After getting the total he said "Well, it didn't make much difference."
My bigger issue with the whole exchange is that this place has been overcharging people for years - years! - and apparently were told before that comics don't get taxed in MA and didn't listen, thinking he knew better.
While I liked the shop and will probably return, the selection and set-up was really fun and fantastic, the fact that they are running a comic shop and are completely ignorant of the fact that comics don't get taxed is a little disturbing. Hopefully things will be different going forward but it doesn't help all the people that were...
Read moreWas in here with a friend looking at DS/GBA games when said friend made a joke and I was laughing a tiny bit with him when a older worker( looks like Santa clause didn’t catch a name) got rude and asked us if he didn’t want us to have him get up and if there was a problem, to which when I tried explaining to him we made a joke, he cut me off and harshly said “Well I’m not joking” made me very uncomfortable. Not coming here again.
Edit: I saw your response and find it very sad myself you assumed that I was making jokes on ailments when that wasn’t the case- had you let me explain myself. I have a lot of empathy I believe and I suffer from ailments myself. That situation could’ve been avoided had I been able to explain myself rather than being cut off. I nor my friend made a joke about anybodys ailment but you keep telling yourself otherwise. Also making assumptions about someone you barely know based off one interaction isn’t exactly empathetic yourself considering cutting someone off and not letting them explain themselves is how situations like this happen. Like I said previously nobody made any jokes about ailments but I guess you wouldn’t know that considering I was cut off and not...
Read moreTerrible Customer Service and I'm glad I didnt make the drive to the store and called ahead. I Asked about a xbox 360 power supply which they did not have. I asked if they had an OG xbox or 360 with the original hard drive in it. The man over the phone explained that he wasnt sure what hard drive was in the 360. I took the time to explain that if they have an OG xbox game available, you can put it in the 360 and if it loads, the 360 has the original hard drive. If an error screen pops up and says it is no longer backwards compatible without the OG hard drive from microsoft. He had no interest in testing that out for me. Said something about he doesnt have the capabilities to do that. I asked if they have all the wires needed for the console and he said yes, I asked if they had an OG xbox game available to which he said yes and I explained again that I was interested in buying this if verified it is still backwards compatible. He had apparently had no interest in testing the 360 and told me again he "didnt have the capabilities" to do that.....Not helpful at all and I guess I'll buy what I need off amazon. So much for trying to support a local small...
