Disclaimer: if you have difficulty climbing steps, this is not the cabin for you. It is not handicap accessible. But if you like to get your steps in daily, this is the cabin for you.
We stayed at The Lodge at Wears Valley. This cabin was absolutely gorgeous with wrap around porches on each level. It sits at the top of the mountain and has a great view/background for photos (say cheese). There were some pros and cons, but the good outweighed the bad. I would suggest driving a truck/suv to this property as some of the turns leads to steep curvy roads. It takes about 4 mins to get up and down the mountain and a total of 15-20 mins to get to the main strip. The time goes by really fast.
I would suggest finding this cabin during the day as it can be easily missed. It took a couple of days for my muscle memory to kick in. Nonetheless it's a must see!!
Once you arrive, the road that leads to the property is narrow and goes to 2 separate properties (you'll have to see it for yourself to understand). The parking is not ideal and could really use a wider concrete/asphalt parking area. Don't try to park more than 2-3 cars... It's just not enough room. When we turned in, we had to turn our vehicles towards the other property as if we were going to that property just to backup the vehicles to the cabin. It just made more sense to back in.
There are many entry points on each level, but the main entrance is on the 2nd floor. You will climb about 6-8 steps from the ground and then another 15 steps to get to the main door. If you're in shape, this will be a cake walk for you. My body absolutely hated me so i've joined a gym since our trip. My mom went with us on this trip but she uses a cane/walker to walk (hence the disclaimer), so we had to open the main door and then go downstairs from inside the cabin to open the sliding door on the bottom level to let her in. She only went upstairs to the kitchen maybe 3x out of the 5 nights/6days we were there. We were too afraid of her falling so we went up and down the stairs for her.
We didn't get to hang outside often due to the weather being either too cool, rainy, or extremely windy, but there's plenty of sitting areas all around with the exception of one bench that looked like it should be on the side of the street waiting to be picked up on trash day. Nonetheless, this cabin was extremely spacious with a modernized kitchen, big closets, nice sized bathrooms, screened in sunroom, and plenty of games for the family to play. The sunroom is not winter proof but would be great to use for weather conditions greater than 65 degrees.
We've used vacasa previously for other cabins and they have not disappointed me yet.
Cons: parking not ideal for more than 2 vehicles, not handicap accessible, a little dusty inside, table mats/shower curtains were stained and needed washing, wasps and other insects found an entry point in the cabin and should have paid a fee for their stay. UPDATE: I failed to mention that some of the light switches didn't seem to turn on anything internally or externally and light switches for lights were in weird locations. 2 of the rooms could use brighter lights. One of the rooms had lamps in it that didn't work. We could not control the speed of the ceiling fans. All were...
Read morecom Amazing! There is so much to say about our stay at kodiak #45. When we walked in i was overwhelmed with the beauty of this log cabin. It was bright with windows wrapped almost completely around the cabin. It's as beautiful as the pictures show and more. Super clean! The first floor living space was huge, we loved the dinning room window in front of the cabin. And the sunsets were gorgeous on the deck and from the living room area. The bedrooms were large and comfortable. The sheets were clean and crisp which are important to me. You knew they were washed. The bedroom bathroom had all the needs we needed. Supplied with some bathroom accessories, toilet paper, hand bar soap, towels. If you need a hair dryer you will need to pack that. Each bedroom had it's own bathroom and also a small main bathroom for everyone. The kitchen was stocked pretty well, could of use a few more dish cloths and dish towels. We used the hot tub once and it worked very well. Our week there was very hot and the air conditioning was great. We spent every night out on the beautiful wrap around deck. Things to know. The drive up is steep and lots of turns the first time it seemed nerve racking but you did get use to it. We always came back before dark because of the climb up the mountain and the bear. Yes bear! Make sure absolutely no food of any sort be left in your cars. And make sure your doors are locked. We had a bear come up to our daughter as she was trying to get into the cabin, she threw her food at it so they could get back into their car and wait for it to leave. We also had a bear climb up a tree and jumped onto the porch when everyone was on it. Luckily we kept our first floor bedroom door unlock so we could run in the opposite direction. I suggest that highly. The bear was on the porch for about 5 minutes but snuck off with a cooler of beer. We never left any food out but it probably could smell the grill on the porch. We had another in counter in the mid morning and a bear climbed up the post of the porch and ate the charred crumbs from cooking. It also tore up my grandsons swim floaty. We always had to people watching on the porch when we were out there. And doors looked when inside. We had three bear in counters at the pool. We were good until other people came in with food and the bears were there with in minutes. We were always careful walking to and from the cars. Please keep an eye on your little ones outside and on the porch. A bear did break into a few vehicles including our son in laws car. Fortunately no damage, but others went as as lucky. We put all of our garbage down in the main garbage compost not in the bear containers they have. We would not defer us from coming again but now we know to be aware of our surroundings. We had many amazing stories to tell about the bears which made great memories. It was the best family vacation we ever had. Highly recommend this kodiak resort! We had two things with issues which vacasa took care immediately. Loved it!

Read moreWe rented a cabin in Tennessee from Vacasa and it was a terrible experience to say the least.
We arrived to find the cabin in serious disrepair. Railings on the outside decks were loose and one was detached! The cabin is on the side of a mountain so the deck rails are a major safety concern. We could not let the children on the deck! We were even nervous to be anywhere near the railings. Furniture was ripped, drawers and cabinet doors were broken and the dressers were a mess. The rails from one dresser were completely removed and sitting on the dresser. I took pictures and messaged them right away. Then we found that neither of the gas fireplaces worked. We messaged them again. They sent someone out but only one fireplace could be repaired and the one that was repaired smelled of gas when you used it. This was especially unfortunate seeing that the heat quit working that first day. For 2 days we were without heat with a baby and 2 young children plus my two parents who are 70 years old.
Then the weather changed and it was in the 80's and the air quit working. 2 days without air and then they sent workers with 3 old window units. These units were taped into the windows- yes, taped! And not taped well either - we had to stuff diapers in the cracks to keep the bugs out. The units were not working well and did not do the job of cooling the cabin either.
We also found a mattress protector had been stained with urine. We then began to wash all the bedding only to find that the dryer did not work properly. We had to cycle the dryer three times to dry things.
We had to deal with maintenance issues each day of our stay and we even had workers come to the cabin unannounced while women and children were there alone. Workers were at the cabin 5 out of 6 days but nothing was ever rectified.
These issues continued for the length of our stay. We were given a partial refund but it was not enough. We were told they would provide us with another place to stay but that never happened. When we spoke to representatives they apologized but did nothing further. This cabin should not even be rented out!! I then went to the Better Business Bureau and found I was not the only one with problems with Vacasa. I left a negative review as well. I was disappointed with Airbnb's response also. No one seems to care that this cabin has safety issues and is...
