Update – I received a call from the owner Theresa within an hour of posting my review. She was very apologetic and her sincerity was very evident. She immediately began looking into what had happened before she called me, and now has the ball rolling. It should be noted that she called from her personal cell phone and is personally making sure that everything is rectified.
I dreaded the prospect of starting this process over. Until this we were genuine “five star review” customers of Worthington Jewelers from prior experience. That is what made this so shocking to me. However, Theresa has restored the image and impression we have carried of Worthington Jewelers from the first time we walked in the door.
I want to make sure that I provide up to date information and reviews so that folks can see for themselves what is happening and make their own decisions. Also, if I can take the time to write a negative review, then I can certainly take the time to make sure folks know when the store steps up to the plate to make things right.
Theresa – thank you. Truly. You don’t know how much it means to me that you called me, and that my wife will get this gift.
I am a repeat customer of Worthington Jewelers, so I am shocked that I have to write this review. I went in just before Valentine’s Day with a request to have specific stones mounted in a yellow gold cross. Each stone was specific corresponding to a special month between my wife and I. I started working with Stephen on this. It was going to take some time which I understood. Stephen starts the process to see what needed to be done with regards to the setting, how it comes, replacing stones, etc. I was expecting and update within about a week (per Stephen) which did not come. I had to call to follow up. That led to a return call and a trip in to the store to inspect the parts. Several adjustments were needed (that is also expected in custom work for jewelry, so I was good with this). Once the revisions were decided I left the store expecting get an update within the next couple weeks at the very least.
No dice.
After almost a month of no contact I called and left a voicemail asking for an update. This was about two and a half weeks ago. I received no call. I made a return call and left another voicemail four days ago.
I still have heard nothing from the store.
I don't understand why none has taken the time to return my call, or why I'm clearly not important enough to them to take seriously. The piece I am having customized may not be a $10,000 piece of completely custom jewelry, but I am a customer. If they are not interested then at least tell me. If they are facing staffing shortages and are running behind and can't get to the work I understand that as well. I'm flexible.
There are no words for the level of disappointment I feel over this. It took me a long time to come up with this idea, pick the stones that had the most meaning, and put the entire idea together. This is not easy for me to do for various reasons. This is something my wife will cherish due to the meaning behind it. She has been through several very tough years and I just wanted her to have something that would show how much I truly love her.
I will still get this piece made somewhere. I just don't know where yet.

Read moreMy partner and I were very excited to get professional advice on my antique engagement ring that was his great grandmothers. It’s very special to us both and we were looking to modify it. I’ve heard great things about WJ so we decided to check them out today. When we walked in, we began the conversation by explaining to the woman helping us that we are both very new to the process and are looking for guidance. We explained the situation and she took one brief look at the ring on my finger from a distance, made a smirky face and said “we can’t do anything with that.” She gave zero explanation at first, I had to continuously pry her to explain further and educate us— why can’t you do anything with it? She provided very short, sometimes one-worded answers and the way she spoke to us felt very insulting. Remember, we are beginners with this process, so we are hoping for a friendly, helpful interaction with a professional, especially at a place like WJ that has great reviews. She proceeded to look at the ring under the microscope for a few seconds and continued to have a negative attitude— “well um there are these super tiny diamonds and there’s a tiny diamond in the middle.. oh actually half a diamond it’s super chipped so yeah we can’t do anything with this” and gave it back to me without question. I would’ve at least appreciated advice or thoughts when we had mentioned his grandmother has diamonds for us to use in the current ring somehow (if possible) or a custom piece which we were open to— like what else do you guys offer at this store then? We were ready for other ideas but she continued to speak rudely and clearly had no interest in helping us. I really hate to leave a negative review but the interaction we had with this women was so unprofessional, insulting, rude, and unhelpful. As a beginner with this process, I would have appreciated more kindness and guidance. I wish I would have gotten her name— she was fairly young, had longer dark brown, curly hair and was right at the front of the store. My partner and I were highly disappointed at WJ, and probably spent less than 2 minutes in the store in total. I write this in hopes that you may educate your staff on more appropriate and friendly ways to interact...
Read moreUPDATE: I did end up taking my ring back to Worthington Jewelers. I spoke with Eric who was very apologetic and acknowledged the lack of polishing and overall unevenness of the ring. He offered both a refund and/or to have it fixed with them. I chose the latter and explicitly expressed how I (1) wanted my band back to the original shape (D shape) and (2) did not want to simply have it polished down, so that it would be noticeably thinner. In designing the ring, the width and thickness of the band was an important consideration for me, so this second request was something I was adamant on. I even inquired about whether they lave a laser welder to add metal to restore the shape, to which Eric responded that they did.
Disappointingly I picked up the ring to find that neither of my requests were done. The bottom half of my band is now a knife edge and it is indeed noticeably thinner. It appears, they thinned out other portions of my band to make the changes at the bottom less visible. The ring itself does look better than the previous time I picked it up, but the changes were explicitly against what I requested and the ring overall feels less substantial.
In the end, Eric did refund me the cost to resize and add sizing beads. They also did shave down the sizing beads per my request when I previously brought the ring back. I am disappointed in the experience and end result, especially since I hadn't taken engagement photos with my ring before this happened.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I took my engagement ring to be sized up half a size and to add sizing beads. The craftsmanship was not great and feels rushed with tool marks where the work was done and uneven polishing. There’s also that portion of the band profile is just different from the rest. Almost like it was mistakenly polished into a knife-edge profile. The entire band was initially rounded. Look at the...
