1 star only because after all the hassle, my wedding dress did look great on my wedding day. However, the stress of getting the alterations would lead me to give The Stitch zero stars.
I had an absolutely horrible experience getting my wedding dress alterations done at The Stitch, and would NOT recommend them to anyone. I was treated poorly and insulted from the very first visit when I was asked by Heidi (the owner), "Why is your dress so BIG? Oh, you must have gotten it off the rack." Then had to make a total of 5 separate trips to the store for alterations, steaming, and fixing things that should have been done correctly in the first place. When trying on my dress after the first set of alterations, I noticed the neckline of the dress was crooked (it was NOT crooked when I bought the dress). However, the Stitch charged me $70 to fix the neckline, saying that the neckline was crooked when I brought the dress (if it was crooked when I brought it in, then why wasn't it noticed the first time I tried the dress on?). The bustle had to be fixed three times, including two days before my wedding because it was still not correct. They also charge an additional $50 for steaming the dress, even though this should be included, especially after what I paid for alterations. Oh, and we also had to pay before alterations were done, instead of after, which is unheard of at any tailor I have ever been to. Lastly, I was told it would only take an hour to steam my dress, however, when I dropped my dress off, they told me to come back in two days, and when I called after two days and wanted to pick up my dress earlier in the day, I still had to wait because they had not steamed it yet. At this point, I had tons to do since my wedding was three days away, yet had to sit around waiting for my dress to be steamed. The seamstress is very sweet and I had no problem with her, but the owner, Heidi, is rude, pretentious, and extremely unprofessional. It was an absolutely horrible experience that left me in tears. I would think twice before getting anything, especially a wedding dress, altered...
Read moreSo, I needed 2 pair of pants hemmed and I've been putting it off forever. I shoved them in the back of my closet, and it was finally time to get them taken care of. (primarily because I needed them, so that was a motivating factor.)
I was recommended to try this place out from my local dry cleaners, and boy, was this a great recommendation! For starters, they have really awesome hours. Their open Monday through Friday 10 am until 7 PM, and Saturdays from 10-6. They also don't require an appointment, which I loved! I was able to swing in here on my way home from work which was easy and convenient. It's located inside the Vince and Joe's shopping center next to Hamlin Pub, so it's relatively easy to find.
Walking in, the lobby area is wonderfully decorated and clean. One of the nicest lobbies I think I've ever seen for a tailor/seamstress shop. There were two girls working here and both seemed to know what they were doing One of them had my try my pants on and she made the necessary adjustments to make my pants fit correctly.
Surprisingly, they only needed a few days to get my pants done. I dropped them off on a Friday night and I got a text Monday morning saying they were ready? that's a quick turn around. Their prices are competitive, and it's $14 a pair for hemming. Since I had two pair, that's $28. Not to shabby. The other places were charging $15, and some even quoted me up to $20 a pair of pants? UM NO.
Overall I was really impressed with the service and overall experience here. While its not close to home, it's easy to find, has great hours and they do good work for alterations. Also, the gal waiting on me said that they were under new ownership. I don't know how long ago that happened, but that's good to know. The reason I found out was because when I checked in here on Yelp, there was a 20% off coupon for first time check ins. She was confused about it and told me the check in was probably from the previous owners.
I really loved my time here and their a good place. Will be returning...
Read moreSHOULD'VE STUCK WITH THE SEWING ROOM!!! This place doesn't even deserve one star, what a joke of an establisment!! That rating is far beyond what the hired help, owner, or alterations deserve!! The owner, Was the rudest most disrespectful human being you'd never want to meet, hire, let alone work with!! RUN AWAY FAST AS YOU CAN IF YOU VALUE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!!!! God Forbid you are unhappy with their services, which you MOST CERTAINLY WILL BE, (or lack there of) let alone question the damage her "seamstresses" cause to your garments, she'll surely scold you & run to hide... After she waved her little finger in the air yelling "they're people too & make mistakes," (yet gave ZERO apology) claiming everyone in the ENTIRE place could hear me yelling at her manager, even though I was on the phone.. haha (I was en-route NB Van Dyke/24 mile) I clearly stated I wasn't happy with the mishap & that I'd be back to pick up my dress and I didn't wish for them to try and 'fix it," & that I'd gladly handle the problem myself because I didn't have time to waste in case it still wasn't fixed. No big deal, right?? NOPE, not for The owner and the manager! They instead, claim they were already tearing the bra from the dress when I walked in, minutes later..And how bizarre that they would cut off my price tag that was attached to the skirt of the dress (and all the work was to be done above the empire waist.) They left my Brand New Velvet topped dress with holes (off centered at that) in the front of the V-neck and along the seam under the arm after i specifically asked them NOT TO do anything more and to leave it as it was... The drama with this place goes on, but if you haven't already reconsidered going elsewhere, be prepared for dissappointment & be sure to request a "seamstress" to do your fitting because you'll likely have the manager fit you, who (I quote) "kind of sews a little!?!" NOT A REAL...
