We got married at the mansion, and we truly cannot say enough about how wonderful an experience it was. It was beyond our wildest expectations! We initially chose the venue simply because we found the mansion to be a beautiful and interesting setting, but what ultimately impressed us the most was the extraordinary service we received from the owner, Bill. He really goes above and beyond for his clients! He did so much of the setup for us, far beyond what we ever would have expected. In fact, we were absolutely stunned by how much was included, especially given how low the price point is in comparison to more traditional wedding venues in the central Indiana region. He provided so much for us, both in terms of his own time and labor in doing the lion’s share of the setup himself, and in terms of decorations, table settings, etc which were included, and which we would have had to rent or purchase a la carte at many other venues. Honestly, he could charge twice as much, and it would still be a fair price! Bill is obviously so knowledgeable and passionate about the mansion and its history; his enthusiasm in sharing that with us was palpable and made the whole experience even more exciting. He was very generous with his time throughout the process: always responding promptly to our messages, offering suggestions to help us arrange and decorate the space to suit our needs, connecting us with other vendors (for the few services he did not provide himself), accommodating last-minute requests, and even taking initiative to set up additional meetings earlier in the process just to make sure we were on the same page. What we appreciated the most, though, was how incredibly flexible and accommodating he is! Frankly, we had a pretty strange vision for our wedding; we wanted a dinosaur theme. Bill was never judgmental in the slightest, but instead was completely on board with all of our shenanigans and even offered additional suggestions we hadn’t thought of! His open-mindedness and creativity truly made him a delight to work with. If you have a half-baked idea for an unusual event you’d like to host, Bill is your guy. He will make it come to life and make it better than you ever imagined! We truly cannot recommend him...
Read moreWhere to start?! We rented the mansion the weekend of June 1st/2nd, 2024. My siblings and I grew up in Shelbyville but left decades ago. We always admired the Charles Davis Mansion, which was located not too far from our home and which we passed by often. We occasionally return to Shelbyville for various reasons and this time it was to celebrate our mother’s 90th birthday. Our stay was a trip down memory lane for her and for us because a lot of the features of the mansion reminded us of the home we were raised in on West Washington Street in the 60’s/70’s. There is a rich history to this mansion and some interesting artifacts on the premises to see and learn about. And it’s very family friendly!
I cannot say enough about Bill, the owner. To say that he went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, fun and memorable is an understatement. Our mother is British and he decorated the mansion with all things British in mom’s honor including music set up both on the huge front porch as guests arrived as well as inside for our guests. The spaciousness of the mansion was perfect for our family to spread out in the beautifully decorated and well-appointed bedrooms/baths and living spaces (which are huge). Most importantly, the mansion is meticulously clean and well-maintained inside and outside. It’s a bit funny and cliche to say (but noticeable) that we could have eaten off of the impeccably clean floors/surfaces in every room. And the beds were amazingly comfortable! The gourmet kitchen and butler’s pantry made preparing, storing and serving food easy, and Bill stocks the home with everything anyone needs for a fabulous party and then some. The mansion is extraordinary and we were thrilled with our decision to stay there. There is also a beautiful backyard area with plenty of room for outdoor entertaining. I highly recommend this home/event center to anyone considering a place to host any type of an event. We look forward to another stay in the future. Thank you for...
Read moreI had the privilege of serving in a special US Army unit in Europe during the early 1970’s, called the 7th Army Soldiers Chorus. Every couple of years we get together somewhere for a reunion. This year it was in Indianapolis. Some of us stay in hotels, while others stay in a VRBO rental.
I happened to find the Charles Davis Mansion on VRBO located in Shelbyville, just twenty minutes down the freeway from our host’s house. It was perfect in every way!! There were 8 of us that stayed there and we absolutely loved it. We could have searched forever and not have found a better place to stay. It is indeed a mansion and we had the entire spacious mansion to ourselves. There are a ton of wonderful old artifacts in the mansion that one can enjoy looking at, picking up and examining, and reading about.
After the daily activities of the reunion, we found ourselves back at the mansion in one of the many sitting/living areas further enjoying each other’s company and reminiscing of the past. We found ourselves on the large front porch in the mornings waking up with a fresh cup of coffee and looking around at all the other huge houses on the block. We wanted to avail ourselves of the fire pit in the back yard but unfortunately, time and weather would not permit.
And you would NEVER find nicer, more kind, gracious and personable owners than Bill and Jessica. They had flowers waiting for the lady of the house, pictures of our group from the time we sang in Germany, and a couple of bottles of wine for us guys. We had the privilege of inviting Bill and Jessica to our host’s house on Saturday evening for dinner where we performed a mini “concert” for them, albeit not as good as when we were young. You will never meet better people than they.
I would not hesitate for a moment to stay there again and I am recommending it to everyone I know.
Thank you Bill and Jessica for making our...
