The UPS Store — Local services in Shorewood

I generally don't like to leave bad reviews these days when everyone needs a break, but I had such a bad, weird, baffling experience here that I felt it necessary.

I called to see if they could ship a fairly large, framed poster of mine via UPS, gave the woman on the phone the dimensions, she did a minute of research and said it should be possible. The next day, I brought it in, the guy at the counter measured it, and said it could only be shipped freight at a higher cost, not UPS. I mentioned that I had given the woman on the phone the dimensions and she thought shipping via UPS would be OK, but this guy - who said he was the owner! - said that it was outside the guidelines. I asked what the guidelines were, he told me, and I said that it sounded like that was in fact within the guidelines. He did some very strange math on paper that didn't match what he was saying. I pulled out my phone, did the math, and it seemed to be OK, and I asked him to re-do the math. He told me that the math I was doing didn't take into account the size of the packaging, but I stated that I had taken that into account. He became loud and hostile, stated that he had "been in this business for 15 years" or something of that sort, that he knew what he was doing and I was wrong, despite the weird and baffling paper math, and that he couldn't help.

I said "thanks for not shipping this!", walked out, drove over to the Jefferson Street UPS store, and they had absolutely no problem packing and shipping the frame via UPS. Just no problem at all. I have no idea what was going on with this store, but they really seemed to be having trouble with the basics. Do yourself a favor, skip this store, and go to the Jefferson Street...

First off, I'd like to state that I ship a lot of stuff. For work and for personal reasons. For work I am forced to use Fedex but for all my personal shipping needs I always go to this UPS Store. Unlike many other franchises, this particular store doesn't charge for tape 👍. This location is really convenient since they're right on Oakland so you'll find it a short distance from Riverwest, the East Side, Shorewood, or Whitefish Bay.They do USPS and UPS labels and will tell you both prices and which is the cheapest/fastest option. As a UPS store, they'll package your stuff up for you and nothing that I've sent through them has ever arrived damaged. I've printed stuff there before too. It's the trust policy so you can either do it yourself and tell them how many you have or if you're feeling lazy you can get them to do it for you with like a few cents extra. I appreciate that they can just get straight to business and cut it out with all the pandering chitchat that's so common these days. Particularly when you're in a hurry and just want to ship things and get on...

DO NOT use this location!!! Go somewhere else especially if you're shipping anything of value. These folks/owners/management simply DO NOT CARE. Period. I was hesitant to try a new location but I was in a rush and this location was close to my office and on the way to the airport. Called when my property was not delivered as promised and after paying over 120.00 mind you, I was given so many crazy explanations. Was told someone would call me back. Nada. So I stopped in next time I was in town, was told manager was not in, left my contact information...again. No return call. So I called again spoke to manager/owner was promised a call back. Nada. They lost my property. No Apology. No follow up. Awful excuses. Just a you'll probably need to file a claim. What about my property that I worker hard to get? Where is it? Do yourself a favor, use another location and save yourself the heartache. If I could give ZER0...
