Cottage Closet — Local services in Soddy-Daisy

So 1 week before the military ball and my kiddo gets an invite and needs a dress. There are multiple challenges in this search bc 1) time 2) she's tiny (think size 0 or smaller) 3) shes 1 week post knee surgery on crutches and in a full length leg splint. I've been in Soddy-Daisy for 16 yrs and never been in cottage closet but a friend told me to check it out. We arrived and the sign on the door says "closed until March" however the lights were on. While I'm trying to decide whether to get my kid on crutches out of the car in the cold rain the owner runs out and invites us inside. She gets my daughter a chair and proceeds to show her dresses while getting an idea of the style we are looking for. Jan was optimistic, kind and so helpful - ESPECIALLY SINCE SHE WAS TECHNICALLY CLOSED. We found the perfect dress and my daughter was so happy. Jan even has layaway! I have been a loyal customer of Cottage Closet in Soddy Daisy for at least 10 years. The owner has a wonderful selection of "boutique" clothing and jewelry. She also has consignment clothing, shoes, and purses.

She has helped me out several times by keeping an eye out for a special piece of clothing or accessory that I needed. CC's owner has always been very pleasant and honest in her dealings with me. I have never heard her speak rudely to any customer.

CC's consignment collection includes formal dresses for homecoming, prom, and middle school dances. When girls come in for dresses, she helps them personally and is very fair in her business dealings. My daughter has experienced this many times. As a small business and consignment store, CC prides itself and their employees on helping these girls find their dream dresses. Her policy of not returning formals is a norm in this business niche.

If I could give a negative I absolutely would! If you purchase something here at this store she is great about selling you something but if you ask to return you will not get your money and she will argue with you. I will never spend another dime at this store. I purchased a dress and my daughter got extremely sick and was even put on homebound by the school and dr and she could not attend prom. I thought explaining this situation the lady would have a heart and atleast let me return for some of the money back or even a in store credit! Absolutely not! She was not understanding at all. I really hope she never has to endure a child being sick and being a single mom on a very strict budget. I didn’t want my money back for me though I wanted it back for my daughter to be able to get her nails done or something to replace the heartache of missing prom. Think twice before you...
