Public Storage — Local services in Solana Beach

I have rented five or six times over the last seven years at Stevens Ave. Public Storage. I have found this facility to be excellent. The facility is clean, well maintained, secure, and easy to navigate with no surprises.

The staff has always been, professional, helpful, and friendly. Juana the manager has been there for several years and has always been very enjoyable to work with.

Based on my consistently good experiences at the Stevens Avenue location, I would not hesitate to check with Public Storage first if I would ever need to rent at another location.

Customers should know that Public Storage does require renters insurance with the storage facility address listed as an insured location. You can either buy insurance there, or arrange for it with your homeowners insurance.

Last time I priced rental coverage with my homeowners insurance, it saved me $5.00 dollars over the insurance sold at Public Storage for a short-term rental. I just bought the public storage insurance, because I did not want to spend a 1/2 hour more on the phone with my insurance agency answering policy questions. For longer term rentals, you may be able to save more money by adding the rental location to your home owners policy.

You will also need a Public Storage approved lock. One of their approved locks is a round shielded shackle padlock. They sell them for $15 on Amazon. I bought mine at Public Storage years ago, and don't remember what I paid for it. I think it was within a couple dollars of the Amazon price though. [Update] Actually, I just look on the PS website and saw that their locks are a couple bucks cheaper than Amazon!

It is also very easy to reserve units online. I have done this almost every time I have rented with them. They have a variety of incentives on various sizes of storage lockers. Do the math and you can find which incentive works best for your anticipated rental term.

While I have not rented with any other company, over the years I have occasionally shopped the competition, and also have gone with friends to their storage rental facilities. I have never come across another company that offers more value than Public Storage.

I do not hesitate to recommend Public Storage. For my needs their combination of location, facilities, and price...

Very deceptive!! We reserved a drive-up unit online and received confirmation emails from Public Storage acknowledging our reservation. On the same day we called the property manager with some questions and they stated our reservation was good for 24 hours. Shortly after that call, and well within the 24-hour window, we attempted to submit payment online. The website would not accept payment. We called back and left a voicemail. No one called back that day. We called again the following morning to complete the payment process. When the property manager called us back, she advised the payment was not accepted the day before because someone else rented the unit. I asked how that could be as we reserved the unit and were still within our 24-hour window. She advised "WE WILL TAKE MULTIPLE RESERVATIONS ON ANY ONE UNIT AND THE FIRST ONE TO PAY GETS IT". What on earth is the point of the reservation??? We planned a POD drop off and moving truck around this reservation, which was totally pointless and misleading. Everything works out for a reason and we found a better space with better pricing directly across the street. Oh, and the competitor actually has customer...

So I have had a storage unit at this facility for years. Three years ago, I moved to Massachusetts and kept my unit in Solana Beach, California. Everyone on staff has always been very helpful navigating my billing and everything from so far away. Fast forward I just moved back to California, and I had a challenging situation come up with my storage unit. I tend to be a nervous Nellie, and I have to say Justine, just walked me through, carefully to the solution. I felt like she was holding my hand the whole way, while also being professional, full of knowledge, and followed through with everything she said she would do for me. I know with us finally breaking out of the pandemic, everyone seems a bit overworked and understaffed, and I have to say I didn’t feel any of that with this situation.
