Extra Space Storage — Local services in Solana Beach

I'd stay away from this location. I tried to sign up with an offer online and they wouldn't allow me to, forcing me to go with a more expensive 1 month off free. During sign up, they also charged me twice and I had to get it escalated to get second charge refunded.

Upon move in day, they had no carts or dollies with a very understanding employee citing "the boss said it was a safety hazard". I think they have a cart now but during move in and retrieving things from storage before that was painful. The insides are quite ghetto and run down, probably the worst storage unit I've used in the last decade, however the outside larger car sized ones looked fine. They use wooden doors with weak metal attachment, meaning if someone wanted to break in it would be very simple with minimum effort.

Lastly, I called to let them know I was moving out and was offered a prorate, but was busy and couldn't complete it during that day, mostly just checking in really quick. I called the next day and now they are unable to prorate lol.

I've rented with extra space storage at different locations but I've never seen anything like this all-together. I would suggest going to another location or using another storage company in the area. AVOID THIS FACILITY AT ALL COSTS. There are 3 other facilities on this street that are better managed options. Our rental rate has increased from $325/month to $557/month in 18 months! We had previously sat down with the manager after the first two increases and were assured we wouldn’t be hit with any more rate hikes for 12 months. Well, 8 months went by and another $100 increase. We have a large unit, so the company realizes how difficult it is to relocate. The teaser rate lures you in and then the rate increases start rolling out. The office manager strongly disagreed with the pace of rate increases stating the frequency of upset clients that come in to complain, but said he didn’t have any control on pricing. Since extra space storage took over management of my storage unit (it has been 6 months as of today) they have:

-increased my monthly rent by 88% (from $79 to $149 for a 2'x8' unit)

-Gotten rid of the wonderful and helpful former staff. Their current employees are unfriendly and uncaring.

-Installed coded gates but eliminated the double-locking system they had on every unit and employees that regularly walked around checking units. Twice I've come across unlocked units with belongs that looks scavenged through. Unacceptable.
