Village Consignment — Attraction in Solana Beach

Arguably one of the better curated vintage shops in the area but the owner has a short temper and is extremely rude to customers as noted by other visitors.

Came by during our trip in San Diego and asked the owner how much the price was for an item. She told us that if it doesn’t have a tag, we should look at the other similar items next to it for a price tag and it should be similar. We found one that looks very similar with a $8 price tag. We brought it over to her to show and she said the price tag must’ve been the original price tag and never removed. She refused to sell it to us for that price and went over and grabbed pieces that were double the item size with $65 and $95 price tags. She was telling us she is pricing each item at $65 for us when it should all technically be priced at $95 lol. None of the pricing seemed to make sense to us since the item we are trying to buy was half the size and more simple than the $65 ones.

We asked her if she is willing to lower the price since our item is much smaller than the $65 one. She kept saying “I don’t know if it’s my hearing aids or your accent but I can’t understand what you’re saying. Are you buying my stuff or not? Is it a yes or no?!” Her comment about our accent felt pretty racist since we were POC. We were grateful another customer helped to step in and help us repeat our question loudly to make sure her hearing aids are working. The owner of the store, Karen, really brings the shopping experience down, also as someone who had items on consignment at the very small store she makes it an uncomfortable experience when you try to get paid for items sold… I had been in before the holidays to see if items had sold and they had but I couldn’t get paid because Karen was sick… and she’s the only one that can write checks… the employee put a note in Karen’s book for her to see when she returned to work..:I stopped in a few days after the new year to see if my check might be available…the disorganization, attitude and excuses get frustrating when you’re trying to get paid… overall not a...

I wasn't inside for more than 5 minutes, and I heard the store manager who is white get irritated with a customer, but I wasn't sure what it was about. A couple minutes later I ask him about a $120 lighter and me being a white guy, the employee felt comfortable enough to say "I can't stand Asians, they're so cheap."
