The City of South Daytona must be fully conscious of all hiring practices as it relates to hiring its law enforcement agents. Diversity and inclusion has been very controversial these days to fill positions that reflect the demographics of its community. But the city must be visible in its representation of its community policing practices among these diverse law enforcement agents that share inclusion and diversity. Community policing strategies that reflect community, protection, professional standards , the understanding of its residents and more importantly moral and ethical values. The City must fully understand the liabilities of one bad apple spoils the whole bunch. Visibly, we have watched these incidents played out across the country. Self- serving policing that misrepresent police standards and public trust. As an African -American woman that share the term minority with other races such as your Hispanic law enforcement agents. Professionally the expectation of our communities should reflect the culture of police values and not the values of self serving officers who have not fully grasped the culture of policing as a services. To my Hispanic law enforcement brothers you have to consciously work on your behaviors as you services our community come on brothers, the community is talking only about your policing. I am not a lawbreaker so perhaps I don't have a built in bias against the men and women who serve our community . From seeing these officers around town and taking a moment to say hi , they have always been respectful , polite and professional. Yesterday there was accident in front of my home, they handled the DUI with professionalism. If they look stern and serious while in uniform allow me to elucidate you : these officers have a serious and their lives are in danger EVERYDAY from drug addicts, angry drunks and persons with mental health issue. They MUST be focused or citizens will be hurt or they will .
