I hate having to post a review with a one star rating but the truth is nearly all my reviews are intended to leave room for improvement. After all when choosing a particular restaurant don't we take for granted that they will be serving up good food, courtesy service on a sanitary environment? Obviously those qualities may deserve a 5 star rating without an explanation.
Backyard Boys BBQ fail to meet the expectations of their customers even by their name choice alone. Not at all traditional barbque. More like steamed ribs and meats and slathered with bbq sauce. The slaw is the likes of factory made which is sent to retail shops to sit on their shelves with a hopeful sell by date but at no time was it fresh. The barbque beans seemed like they came straight out of a can with an added splash of bbq sauce. There was enough sugar in my meal to put me in a diabetic comma if I had consumed it entirely.
The service was limited to drive thru which was not a busy period so went smoothly and professionally. However, when calling in the order I wanted to clarify what Backyard Boys considered to be a rack of baby back ribs. This has been a topic of confusion elsewhere in the past which I wanted to avoid here. I was told that the half rack was 6 ribs and the full rack order was 12 ribs. I thought close enough, typically a full rack is 13 ribs so I ordered the full rack. My order was made up of 2 presumably half racks, one with 4 ribs and one with 5 ribs.
One would think if someone wanted to know in advance what would be on their order perhaps attention would be given to ensure correctness. I can only interpret the attention given to my order as an invitation to never return to Backyard Boys.
PS to Backyard Boys, Do you ever take the time to read your customers comments especially on those rating leaving room for improvement? (Not 5) Collectively 1 - 4 ratings amount to about the same number of comments as all your 5 ratings. That's where you'll find all your shortcomings customers have pointed out to you. Quality of food ranks high as well as rudeness of your staff. Now in your defense of ByB BbQ, your customers may not always be right but they are...
Read moreI really screwed myself by having only the salad bar and the soup not my typical meal at a place like that. But as I get older I'm trying to eat healthier. I had just had some dental work done and I didn't put any pepper or salt on the soup the soup was kind of bland but very filling it's my own fault for not putting pepper on it. The salad bar was awesome I had spinach and green leafy lettuce instead of the iceberg lettuce which has no nutritional value at all! Spinach and springleaf lettuce was a real treat as that's what I use at home. The macaroni salad was good the chicken salad was good even the fruit salad was edible not my favorite thing on the menu but I had some and I finished it all. I really enjoyed the bread as I made a little tiny chicken salad sandwich which went good with the soup. The salad bar is the coldest salad bar I've ever seen in my life and I told the girls that. I've been in many buffet restaurants before and I was in the bathroom within a half an hour after I ate and that's because of bacteria in the food, because the salad bar was not cold enough. but no chance of that here at backyard boys barbecue the spinach was frozen to the side of the bowl almost 😂! I must say everything was completely fresh and delightful and as I said it was my own fault for not salt and peppering the soup or at least putting pepper on it , it was good. It was all you could eat so along with the bowl of soup I had two trips to the salad bar and made two spinach salads with extremely fresh vegetables very delightful indeed. I would give it a five-star rating instead of the four I put down and that's because I chose to go to a barbecue restaurant and eat soup and salad my mistake my fault it was truly very enjoyable and worthy of five stars! After I ordered the food I realized I should have at the very least had the fried fish and onion rings and the French fries one of my favorite meals all time! That's what I'm going to have when I go back even though it is a...
Read moreI just can’t figure out why this restaurant has as many stars as it does. I also am unable to comprehend how it has stayed open for all these years. Today, I decided to try it again after having not dined with them for fifteen or twenty years. I thought if they lasted this long perhaps it had gotten better.
It is close to where I live, the salad bar is quite decent and my husband’s french fries were hot and crispy. The waitress was pleasant. Two meals, one sweet tea, came in under $35 without tip. These are the only good things I can say.
The bad: The bench table seats are incredibly uncomfortable. Only two narrow slats wide. I kept sliding off. I wanted to move to a table with regular chairs but my husband didn’t want to make an issue out of where we were sitting.
I had just sat down with my salad and started to eat it when a waitress came to us with our food orders. My husband kept his but I asked them to take mine back so I could finish my salad.
(Preface following with: We had read one other review that warned us but we wanted to try for ourselves). My husband had the St.Louis ribs, fries, corn bread and cole slaw. The ribs had absolutely no flavor and were dry and tough. He tried all the sauces. Every single one of them was thin and very low on flavor, even the one that was supposed to be hot/spicy.
I had the sliced pork with garlic bread, onion rings and cole slaw. The pork was moist, almost too moist actually. No flavor at all. I too tried the sauces, very disappointing as I mentioned thin and low flavor. The garlic bread was so tough you had to pull on it hard with your teeth for a piece to break off. I think they forgot the garlic. The onion rings, which they had told me were made by them, tasted like uncooked dough yet crispy. Weird
NEVER will try again, even if another twenty...
