I recently had the absolute pleasure of joining Clearly Tahoe’s Stargazing Night Kayak Tour in South Lake Tahoe with my son, KJ, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. From start to finish, it was the kind of adventure that etches itself into your memory forever.
Every single staff member we met was warm, professional, and genuinely passionate about creating a special experience for their guests. Our guide, Jason, stood out in the best way possible — knowledgeable, engaging, and full of enthusiasm that made the night both fun and unforgettable. He truly made us feel like more than just participants; we felt like part of a shared adventure.
The tour lasted two incredible hours, from 10 PM to midnight, and paddling out into the calm, glassy water at that hour felt like drifting into another world. Above us stretched a brilliant night sky, clearer and more vivid than anything we’d ever seen. We watched shooting stars streak across the heavens and found comfort in recognizing familiar constellations like Cassiopeia and Ursa Major (the Big Dipper), which seemed to shine brighter than ever over the lake. The reflection of the stars dancing on the water made it feel as though we were floating through the cosmos itself.
Nature added its own surprises throughout the tour. A massive fish suddenly leapt from the water right in front of my son, startling him at first but quickly turning into laughter and excitement. While we didn’t spot the bears or beavers we had been hoping to see, we did encounter frogs and other wildlife that made the night feel alive and full of wonder.
And thanks to Jason, I’ll never forget a few incredible facts about the lake itself: Lake Tahoe is 22 miles long (north to south), 12 miles wide (east to west), with a surface area of 191 square miles and 72 miles of shoreline. At its deepest point, it reaches 1,645 feet. The lake holds approximately 40 trillion gallons of water — about 36 cubic miles — and loses around 500 million gallons each day just from evaporation. Learning these details while sitting on the lake itself gave us an even greater appreciation for its beauty and power.
The combination of the serene lake, the dazzling night sky, the wildlife encounters, and the incredible team at Clearly Tahoe made this experience far exceed our expectations. It wasn’t just a tour; it was a moment in time where my son and I could connect with nature, share wonder, and make memories we’ll cherish for a lifetime.

Read moreSeriously, rarely does something I find online exceed - or as in this case, greatly exceed my expectations, which are, admittedly, high to begin with. To celebrate our wedding anniversary, we paddled out behind owner Jason who was an insanely excellent guide- altho I'm sure all the guides are terrific in their own ways. We and a group of like-minded, nature-loving, mini-thrill-seeking individuals and couples quickly absorbed easy instructions, got into our kayaks with great confidence and ease and followed Jason to points dark in the lake under a starry - and magnificent sky. We learned about how the lake stays so clear and clean (fascinating....BEAVERS!!), the unique layout of the southwestern skies and spent a surprisingly easy and calm nite (it's Lake Tahoe which has currents and waves) on Tahoe. EVERYONE SHOULD DO THIS!!! It...
Read moreClearlyTahoe® is so fun! They gave us the most professional, safe, and wonderful experience on the lake with the explore clearly kayaks. The guides are super cool and know a LOT about the environment and area...the clarity of the lake is breathtaking - there's no better clear kayak team to see it with! It was easy for us to book and plan since the ClearlyTahoe® headquarters office is in the Tahoe Keys (South Tahoe) and launches from so many points around the lake. My favorites so far are Edgewood and Cave Rock. We also rented them at a lodge for a private beach tour for a family reunion....
