Public Storage — Local services in Southborough

Pros: Brand-new facility Good rates for the moment Drive-in bay is great for bad-weather days Owners try to make necessary fixes quickly On-site staff are helpful

Cons: Electronic door access and/or bay door system has been unreliable a few times. If you want to be 100% sure you can get in, go during the hours when staff is on site.

Summary: All in all, I'm pretty happy with the Southborough Public Storage. Early on, there were several annoying/security issues, but the owners appear to be quickly going through the punch list on these items and getting them fixed.

Climate control has been OK, with the caveat that my time at the building has mostly been in the winter with cold temps and relatively low outdoor humidity. I have three units across two floors, and temperatures and humidity have tracked pretty consistently, with temps in the mid-50s to low 60s and indoor humidity ranging from the low 20s to the high 40s. Be sure to read the Public Storage blog "What is Climate-Controlled Storage" to get a better sense of what they mean when they say "climate controlled."

My biggest gripe recently has been that the electronic access system went offline on a Sunday and wouldn't let me in. I ended up driving a car-load of items back home and wasting a couple hours as a result. I know they're working with their contractor on a fix, but as noted above, if you want to guarantee that you'll be able to get into your unit, go during the staffed hours. The representative, John, at the Southborough MA Public Storage was very helpful, kind, polite and friendly. I had to make a payment for my storage unit at the Framingham facility, after my debit card was denied because it expired.
