This was a wonderful place to shop ... until it wasnât!
As a Christian woman (albeit flawed like all of us) I truly enjoyed sharing some of my tithe money to support this church thrift shop each week. They have a nice selection of useful items, and I liked the staff. Chris is always kind, and Donna was too. After the Covid-19 pandemic began to play out they were not very conscientious about enforcing the six foot rule during checkout process, in spite of clear yellow tape lines, and unfortunately I found myself in a verbal altercation with a woman who was very aggressive with me when I asked her to back up to the yellow line behind me (she was pushing within a foot or two of myself every time I tried to move away). She was a customer like myself, and used foul language to express herself and her displeasure about being asked to stand 6â away.
To make matters worse, the gal Erica who manages this shop decided to take offense at âmyâ tone of voice (I have a communication disability which elevates when in conflict â it was not âwhatâ I was saying but my tone she didnât like). I was then informed that she (Staff Erica) decided I was not to shop there any more ... not to mention without wearing a mask on herself. I decided to reach out to their pastor by phone and see what I should do to make amends, if I had truly done something wrong (which I didnât feel I had) .... strange enough, I was referred to their assistant pastor Andy, who had a worse attitude than the gal Erica. He was very arrogant, and unlike any pastor Iâve ever encountered (having grown up in the Protestant Church my whole life). He went on how he knew Erica for 10 years, as if that had anything to do with the problem of being discriminated against, which I felt I was. I was so disappointed in the arrogance of this church pastorâs attitude, and canât help thinking about what unbelievers must think of us when encountering folks like this â I asked this pastor to pray with me, and let the Holy Spirit guide a healing process. It was unsuccessful in spite of my reaching out several times. Scripture teaches us that if someone refuses to accept us in their home (in this case their fundraising venture store) then we as believers are supposed to just walk away, and shake off the dust from our heels ... harder to practice this than I thought, I always want to âfix thingsâ but sometimes we just have to let God advocate on our behalf.
Vengeance is mine says the Lord â I pray for that body of believers who are placing their trust in such stubborn hearted, and unkind leaders â I wanted to initially file a secular discrimination suit against the church for their behavior, but in my heart God just wants me to pray for them. I find it difficult to pray for arrogant people, so I need help from the Lordâs Spirit. I am grateful for Jesus, and his love for my wretched soul â and truly grateful to Godâs Holy Spirit who comforts and safely guides my own...
