I really don't want to do this review. I feel as though I have to. I visited Sparta back in March (2024) and I dropped into this store while there. She had just opened up for the year and was excited to have customers inside. Ofelia is a very sweet woman. She is very sociable and very easy to talk to. My complaint is not about her specifically. It's about the items I bought while there.
Usually, when I am purchasing hygiene items, I read ingredients. I am picky about what I use because I have sensitive skin and i break out easily. While shopping here, Ofelia followed my aunt and I around the whole time, talking with us. I didn't mind, as she really is a sweet woman and was so easy to chat with. However, I was distracted because we were chatting. I ended up purchasing a couple different lotions, a lotion/ soap gift set, and a couple other small items. I spent a decent amount in that store.
It wasn't until that night that I was looking at the lotion bottles and reading the ingredients that I noticed that the lotions I bought and the gift set were all expired. Not by a couple months. They've been expired for 2 whole years. I also happened to notice that one of these bottles had an actual cancer warning regarding the ingredients! Normally, I would just count my losses, but 2 of these items were between $25-$28 each. We were hitting the road the following morning to head out, and in order to return these items, we would have had to stay 3 hours later than we planned to in order for her to be open. I had to take a loss on this one so we could stay on schedule.
I understand that running a store, things will expire from time to time. But I still paid full price for these items, except for one. I was told that the items in her store were high dollar items that had good and natural ingredients, then I found a freaking cancer warning on one of the bottles later that night. I almost felt like the chit-chat was intentional at that point, to keep us talking enough that we didn't look closely at what we were buying. Had these items not been expired by 2 years, I would absolutely give the store a 5 star rating. I did not use these items. Having a cancer warning and being expired, I threw these things away and literally just lost out on my money.
My advice, don't be afraid to shop here, but be vigilant about what you are buying. I wish that I had been talking less and paying more attention. I spent around 100 bucks in that store, if I recall correctly. That's not a good feeling. I have included photos of one of the bottles that was purchased from there. The others I didn't take photos of before tossing them. The bottle in the...
Read moreI was shopping for three birthday gifts. What a lovely shop (for women). A huge selection of interesting, beautiful and useful items. Candles, scarves, oils, perfumes, jewelry, note cards, hats, soaps from France, purses, and on and on. The owner was super friendly and helpful. She wrapped my gifts beautifully with silk like flowers on the ribbon. I was shopping for people who have everything and managed to find unique, useful and beautiful gifts! Very impressed and I...
