My wife and I love this spot. We stopped in once before and honestly had a bad experience. Nobody said a word to us and we didn't even know what the store had to offer heading into it. We looked around for a while in an awkward manner and felt out of place.
Well we stopped back here reluctantly a few weeks ago to look for a few Pokemon cards and stumbled upon a solid collection of individual lightly played cards as well as some sealed booster packs, booster boxes, and more. The girl who helped us gave us everything we needed to know and greeted us as soon as we stepped in! We made a solid effort to return a 3rd time when the owner was working. We spent almost 6 hours just browsing through individual cards and found many cards we didn't have. We traded in a few of our own special card pulls for in-store credit and used it towards the finds we had.
We LOVE this place. It's a store for all things magic, warhammer, pokemon, star wars, board games, etc. but ALSO a great hangout spot! One of a kind for this area!! If you can break out of your shell and start a conversation I'm sure you will grow to love this place and return time and time again. Give it a chance and you won't be disappointed!! If you're a game player, check the schedule of events they have on the Facebook page. There's a game night for all ages, genders,...
Read moreI'm from Omaha, NE, which has more than a few game/comic stores. I come mainly for the TCGs but I'm open to all sorts of stuff. Just walking into the Game State I was impressed with how clean and organized it looked. It's so hard to come by a nice and neat looking store anymore these day, let alone "clean" looking, especially in Omaha. This should be a high priority for any sort of store, and it clearly was for this place. Beyond that, the lady working the front made sure I knew where everything was, and if she didn't know the answer to one of my questions, she would find someone who knew, or figure it out for me. That's A+ customer service in my eyes and I'm impressed and grateful that there are still shops around that care for their customers. As far as inventory goes, it was pretty good for how small the town and store are. I can understand that it's hard to get a lot of foot traffic in such a small town.
Overall, I loved the store. Even though I don't go to Spencer very often, I will always stop in when I'm in the area. I really wish a shop like this was in Nebraska and not Iowa. Iowa sucks, GBR. Nevertheless, a lot of shops could take a few notes from Game State. Keep up...
Read moreBest store ever in spencer Iowa!!!! Very clean, well organized. Always stocked with everything you need. Warhammer/starwars/magic/Pokémon and all sorts of other table top games. The owner is super friendly and always helps answer questions in a fun upbeat manner. This is a great place to go in and play for hours!!! Pokemon nights on Thursday that's great for the kids with a few adult mentors teaching how to play. Saturday nights for commander my favorite and so much more. The store also has artists drawn merchandise that has that extra flare for all us nerds/geeks and weebs. This store is seriously the absolute best and I recommend everyone stopping in to join the large family like community that plays and for all your game...
