I was a student in this college for cosmetology a few years ago. It took me five months just to get into the class because the people working in the office dont know what they are doing. They will point to eachother and make you wait in long lines just to talk to someone that says that they dont know what you are talking about and then point to the next human being across the room and tell you to talk to them so then you can wait in another long line and have that person say the same thing. They are very incompetant and they acquire a mental retardation. When you finally do get into your classes, have fafsa set up and pay a lot of money just for books that you dont really need for the classes and is also just side work that doesnt get graded. the teachers are more than useless and pathetic. I wish i could give this college a zero it was the biggest waste of time and money i have ever spent on anything in my life. My one teacher the perfect blonde barbie girl with an egotistic personality will judge you, skip you and not help you with your work as she helps the other girls. I said to her i wiuldnt be failing your class if you actually helped me and she would basically tell me to go F myself and that i need to be hooked up with the disability program which i was they dont really do anything for you. I told numerous people about my one teacher and my main teacher said to me doesnt it feel good to actually finish your work. Yeah totally, if i had any instructions on it or help in the first place. My mom and i went into the disability office and told them to put my disability papers on file for my classes which they didnt and they said you should have told us that you were being enrolled this semester which i did numerous times to different people in the room and my mom even told them if my voice wasnt being heard i had to have my mommy talk to them because supposably i dont matter. I talked to the vice principal or whatever the guy sitting behind his fancy gold desk in charge of the college and i complained to him and told him what happened and he even made my mom call him in front of me and he said some nasty comment about me being a troubled indevidual and a lazy waste of space. They will have the audacity to put a tire clench on your vehicle if you are parked in an invalid parking spot for a day like a small parking lot will be enough for all the students to attend. I dont drive but i saw it a couple times in the parking lot on other peoples cars. This is disgusting to me and it make me want to puke whenever i think about it. This is a nasty school with bad judgement and rude criticism. I was in my class for two weeks and i asked the front desk numerous times that if i left if i will be charged and if my fafsa will cover it and most of them said i dont know or i dont think you are ready to make that decision. I wouldnt be wasting my time and telling them to take my name out of the class in the first place if i didnt really wanted to leave. Most of the time i had to scream at them and say crazy things just so then the front desk will listen to you and give you decent answers. They wont even remember who you are and you have to type your social into a pin pad because they dont take the time to actually acknowledge your existence. When i finally did leave the horrid putrid school they black mailed me $800 and said that i didnt pay for my books or the entrance fee and assumed that i stole the books and charged me extra even though i had the reciept and i shoved it into their stupid faces and showed them and they said that it was fake even though it had the last fee numbers on my credit card and my full name. This college doesnt care about your academic needs they just want your money and they will make up any excuse to take your money away from you. This college is criminal and i really do hope that other people had the same horrid...
Read moreI would leave zero stars, if possible. I'm in what was supposed to be my last quarter at this corrupt institution, and my brain has barely been challenged. I came to SCC as a high quality educator who wanted to grow her skillset into business. I was seeking a high quality education with which to do that. Community college prices were obviously nicer than universities, so I enrolled here. I'd like to tell you that you get what you pay for, but you don't. In the two years I've been here I've had to help administrative departments through tedious details every quarter because there are so many communication lags. I got assaulted by a dean, and was forced to stay silent- and in the end he faced no repercussions. The HR process prevented me from filing charges, and I still have to see him and pay to be here not feeling safe. I've had more than one instructor who has questionable practices shamelessly because they know the student grievance policies are biased to protect them. This place is really like a ghetto high school that is all ages, more than an institution of higher learning. There have literally been two instructors, Larry Sullivan and Mike Allen who have made any of this mess worth my time. If I could ask for a refund & run for the hills I would. To see what these people are making and asked to do, versus the industry I taught in (early learning) is sickening. I will stick it out and graduate from this rancid place, even though I am currently being forced to do more than many of my peers to succeed.
In times where student debt is going to be high no matter what, invest all the way in yourself and apply to your favorite universities. I am $20,000 in debt and questioning what I've really learned here. I cannot wait to be done this fall, and transfer to a real school. This quarter's gem of a teacher has admitted to me that she has me doing the work of 3 or 4 people in the same timeline, on the same grade scale. Also, I got administratively dropped for the last class I needed for one of my degrees with no warning or decent reasoning- and ak being FORCED to graduate late after working hard to exceed expectations. Student success is not the concern here, and its beyond intoletable. Parents, send your kids to their dream school! Students-- go apply to your dream school! This isn't it! They need to come under review for inadequate and inequitable practices...
Read moreI received my phlebotomy degree in 2021. I had wanted to test going back to school at 30 and it went very well. My classroom teacher, Oscar was everything and more. The way this program ran was what I’d expect from any 4 year education. As far as your phleb teacher goes I believe it changes every couple years but I do know Sandy the head of phlebotomy, she really got me in by her encouragement and dealing with my constant email questions as well ;). I was thinking of bailing for life reasons and she encouraged me to continue and that was the push I needed. I’d recommend this school specifically for this program for essntially anyone looking to make more money and have a certificate nobody can take away from you. You’ll be able to work at any Inpatient hospital like Sacred Heart, Deaconess, Valley Hospital or Outpatient like Rockwood, Indigo, travel phleb opportunitis, etc. I’ve worked at CSL Plasma for the previous year and am a month in working at Deaconess Hospital and I make $18 + $3/3.50 per hour for working night shift. $2.00 for evening shift. Note: Due to the recent strike wages will jump anywhere between 10 & 17% in the next month :D...
