I have a suggestion Wellspan, if your hospital and ER cannot handle York County's population I suggest building a larger hospital. I see a constant ping pong of Family Dr.'s sending patients to the ER because they lack enough "sick appts" and then the Hospital ER sending them home after waiting 6-8 hours telling them to Follow Up with the Family Dr. Hmmmm. starting to see a pattern here.
My mother is 86 and this has been happening for almost a year and a half and with most elderly this isn't uncommon as their health declines.
I feel it's barbaric and inhumane treatment allowing sick and suffering people to wait long hours sitting in an uncomfortable chair in the waiting room. One suggestion, if you aren't going to build a larger hospital or hire more ER doctors, is to have a skilled nurse look at the labs and/or X-rays when complete and ALSO LOOK at patients history. If it shows recurrent illness as with my mother. and that the patient simply needs an antibiotic for an infection then GO FIND a Dr. and talk to him. Also, set up a room for those patients whose labs/scans aren't "ADMISSION" serious and the Dr. can make that medication call faster and one less in waiting room.
Instead the patient gets back finally after 6-8 hours, exhausted from their pain, working on no sleep throughout the night, and now has been exposed a “long time” to those in the waiting room with Covid, Flu, or RSV with or without masks.
So Dr. "THEN" reviews the labs/scans and pretty much streets them with a script for an antibiotic which can't be filled anyway during the night because THEIR pharmacy and all in York aren't open 24hrs. any longer. We are truly in sad times and fear this is going to only get worse. Also, FYI if you go to Patient First as I did for my mother.....don't think you are going to be seen immediately if they are busy. AND...... Wellspan ER will not accept their bloodwork OR Patients First suggestion to go to ER and get an immediate IV Antibiotic because you have...
Read moreI have been here bringing my husband for the third time less than three weeks, and every single time he is having literally trouble breathing going in and out of consciousness and although it’s an emergency they have literally treated this like it’s not. they take their time they don’t seem very concerned or caring they keep sending us home saying that all the test results and everything are good he’s healthy as a horse but clearly there is a bigger problem and something is seriously wrong if he’s going in and out of consciousness because he’s not getting enough oxygen because he can’t breathe. if it wasn’t for this hospital literally been a five minute drive I honestly would prefer to take him to another hospital because so far they have been absolutely no help and once again I’m here today and we will see what the outcome is but they don’t do very much. they don’t even really control his pain it’s ridiculous and it’s honestly sad considering that these are people who work in healthcare and for the area that were in people depend on this hospital and the proper care. In an event of an emergency you can barely find parking, a lot of the times I have notice as I’m sitting here waiting to go in that a lot of the nurses are actually taking up the emergency room parking which doesn’t help the situation because then people have to park elsewhere and can’t have close access to the emergency room. This hospital really needs to step it together other than just fixing how the building looks and how it looks inside they need to work on their employees because regardless of the situation or who the people are they deserve 100% of your care and compassion and your absolutely best possible care that you can give. I have never really had to use the emergency room until then but I got to say as of now I am very disappointed the nurses are not very welcoming or compassionate and honestly this hospital is just heartbreaking. Wellspan York emergency hospital you need to...
Read moreShowed up 8:15 with major concussion symptoms, as advised by PCP. Set in a wheelchair unattended 4 hrs.( it was busy there) Was not offered a tylenol or asked how I felt. Got pushed back by woman with bad attitude and literally dumped on a seat. NO curtain pulled, a bunch of cackling hens at the front desk only worried about lunch, and under a very bright light, all bad for you if you have head trauma. Google it. 2 hrs later, after my CT scan, my BP skyrocketed, I was told by the 1 nice NP that my seat was adjustable, and she made me somewhat comfortable. I was also informed my CT scan did not show brain bleeding. Now my Dr. whom I had no idea was my dr. as they referred to her by her first name, got me tylenol, and a xanax which I have a prescription for. 7.5 hr in now. I was asked if there was a problem... "You don't like your dr. Or something?" 45 min after I was told I'm being discharged, i walked out. My discharge papers I viewed on the Wellspan portal later indicated that diagnosis was hampered because of anxiety (what the xanax is for)and mental illness. I did not see a psychiatrist. Symptoms of concussion can include mood swings, irritability, etc. I would expect a dr. To consider this normal behavior. Also, bold letters about drinking on Xanax which I never do, and now it's all about my prescriptions.....this dr. doesn't know me from Adam. Some nerve questioning my long time and highly regarded PCP. Spiteful, irrelevant statements probably because I walked out. Having a serious concussion with a splitting headache and go through this neglect for almost 8 hrs, what else...
